Just wondering what the general thoughts are about whether the recent trend to legalize marijuana will boost the prices of pot-related domains?

Exactly why I use Google Alert for mainly info about Canada cannabis laws!All one had to do was read the legislation, the startups businesses are there if one reads thru the lines.
.
Colt, Indy, Porche are the brands, (in most cases bigger searches)Leafurl, curious about 420Jolt vs. Jolt420? Each appraisal source I checked has Jolt420 appraising for more than 420Jolt. I do understand that "420" should be the lead word/number in the domain, but the majority of names I'm familiar with have the # following the word like; Colt45, Indy500, Porche911. .
Remember...Provinces and territories will have their own laws and regulations! Even municipalI was looking for that post, glanced at it briefly. Not a golfer but have 5 golf(ing) names. Love watching it
Briguy, pretty sure its 4 plants in your house. Not outside.

- Cultivate up to 4 plants in their own residence (4 plants total per household);
You said; "It's not what a appraisal comes in at. Its what works on a beer tap."...I agree 100%, I quote appraisals because they can help make/break a sale.It's not what a appraisal comes in at. Its what works on a beer tap. It a end user is paying thousands give them both. Let high level advertising executives make the decision. I see appraisals in this fast moving industry both a hindrance and almost a useless reference.
Example; if the Hemp bill passes next week, the industry just went from a few hundred grand to untold billions in hemp. How does that reflect on a GD appraisal? Or a search engine picking up Coke a cola getting into the game.
Now if your sitting at a computer playing the numbers game on SEO hits, sales and algorithms etc. it the only reference you have.
I simply use intuition and references to solid legislative wins and written laws state by state to make decisions.
As a matter of fact Kieth who I have the utmost respect for recommends against most my inventories. He was concerned about my ROI. I took his half of his advice and sold Canna and Cbd cheap to maintain my commitment and belief in the core of my inventory in ; Leaf. ( that he is gaurded on ) So there you go that's my appraisal.

Finally....you said, "I simply use intuition"....I agree, intuition combined with common sense and experience is a winning formula
A new, first-of-its-kind cannabis museum opened Thursday in downtown Las Vegas, offering visitors an immersive, 420-friendly experience.
The Cannabition Cannabis Museum features a variety of made-for-social-media exhibits, including a slide that empties into a pool of foam pot “nuggets,” a glow-in-the-dark tree and a 24-foot bong — dubbed “Bongzilla” — that’s being touted as the world’s largest.
The attractions are all sponsored by companies working in and around the marijuana industry,including leading online pot resource Leafly...
"bringing legal weed a few minutes' drive from Southeast Michigan. "..which is a bonus for any Canadian (mom and pop shops etc) who live on a border town..The US dollar (last looked) was worth 30% more than Canadian (exchange rate)..so basically $10 US will buy you $13 Canadian, probably the exact same stuff you can get in Michigan!https://www.freep.com/story/opinion...alize-marijuana-recreational-weed/1372784002/
Just out today; key here is %15 taxes to help retail shops and micro business
( craft, or 50 to 250 plant grows )
It's a numbers game. More people in it more new startups and dreamers and the need to brand, street level into products and services. They will need seo, brandables are expensive to develop and most Michigan money won't have the either ability or funds. Thus seo, In my opinion.
As prices drop and normal competitive forces take hold, it's a sure bet they will need good domains.
This is interesting because if, and it sounds like this some places, there are a lot of local businesses of limited size, do they just serve their local geo area and sell in person? Because if that is the case you would only have a certain number of weed shops in range so they only have to compete against other locals and web and domain are not their most important concern.I've sat in many a town hall meetings and a common theme is we dont want the multi nationals. People especially midwest folks don't appreciate outsiders stomping on their opportunities.

On the other hand if they sell online on a statewide or national basis the domain and website seem more important.

I'll try to explain how retail stores on street level may evolve. Easier to isolate say Massachusetts. And things are constantly evolving. It's a new industry with problems yet to even arise. This is my best guess at this; this is complicated.
Its all about the state laws that have evolved and now local municipalities that additionally have both say and the ability in many cases to limit and or ban stores in their local towns and cities. This being said expect every small town in Massachusetts to have a few stores. The towns can opt out if the constituents voted NO on the state wide ballot initiative 2016. So how does this relate to stores? Well expect a competitive enviorment for customers and sales. This is a domian sale ( hopefully ) on a seo based street name. Their not going to pay 20 grand of say their upfront Capitol on a domian. I see them paying 2k to 3k mby 5grand. It's a small business.
These small businesses owners will be tightly connected to local farmers ( leafarmer; leaffarmer) that too will have to brand their grow.
Multiply the amount of towns ( back out 20% that will opt out ) then add in a guess on the larger cities and that's your number. On new startups and small chains.
I will in a separate post discuss Med Men that is working on a franchise platform that will compete on street level for sales.
This above scenario is happening for example in :
Massachusetts
Michigan
California * broken down by county and then local town
So say each of these boards issue a hundred a week for a aggregate of 1000 weekly ( spread out nationwide) your at 50,000 new startups yearly for the next year and beyond as new states come online.
These various state, county, and city down too town cannabis boards issue various cannabis permitts. Edibles, stores, growers and extract, plus some get involved in labs and transportation liscences.
I've regularly seen them wack out certain names and branding options also. Specific to weed, pot, and marijuana. These municipal entities don't want pot shop names they are interested in Canna and Leaf etc ( the leaf is my plug fyi) ; and other non get high connotations on street signage and branding.
New Jersey has a branding and packaging category that went into this. It may pass in the next few weeks.
Was it Hawaii? That just renamed their statewide program too Cannabis it was Marijuana.
How many domains does it take to run a single business, when they all point to the same place?
Again, someone just spent $10k on a domain that starts with “the” and they have no chance of getting the better, shorter version. What a waste!
October 17th coming soon (Canada Legalize Marijuana)
"
Once marijuana is legal, Canadians will be permitted to:
While the federal government was responsible for the bill that ultimately will legalize recreational marijuana possession, home growing and sales to adults — by dismantling key aspects of the Criminal Code that maintained prohibition for 95 years — the practical details of implementing legalization have been left largely to the provinces and territories."
- purchase fresh or dried cannabis, cannabis oil, plants and seeds for cultivation from either a provincially or territorially regulated retailer, or — where that option is not available — directly from a federally licensed producer;
- possess up to 30 grams of dried legal cannabis or its equivalent in public;
- share up to 30 grams (or its equivalent) of legal cannabis and legal cannabis products with other adults;
- cultivate up to four plants at home (four plants total per household); and
- prepare various cannabis products (such as edibles) at home for personal use, provided that no dangerous organic solvents are used in the process.
