Hey DAN, why is everyone else in the world outside the EU forced to see annoying cookie policy popup? You should just make it for the EU regime citizens. It makes a very BAD first impression to potential buyers on the domain landers! Fellow Namepros users, please like this comment if you want to get some action from GoDaddy woops I mean DAN 😉
Another suggestion for @LaszloSchenk and @DAN.COM on this idea would be... Use the power of IP Geo-Location! If the IP of the user is outside of the EU then no automatic cookie privacy pop-up on domain sale lander pages. Alternatively, you could put a setting on DAN seller options where we can opt-out of the auto-cookie pop-up for any viewers outside of the EU. I'm guessing you guys would love to do such a thing but are quivering in your boots at the thought of the almighty EU government hammer coming down on you. Or, last resort, just make the cookie popup WAY smaller!

Why is the cookie policy pop-up so huge on domain lander pages? You can still make it obvious without ruining the first impression of potential buyers of domains. That's not my domain, it's just a screenshot for example...

The cookie consent pop-up is too large, obscuring too much content. There's really no need for it to be this big. I believe no one actually wants to read it.

I agree. There could just as easily be a small horizontal pop-up at bottom of screen that says, "This site uses cookies to enhance user experience. Click here to opt-out of cookies."

A tip about EU cookies law. IF the website is using only _essential_ cookies, such as to impelement login and subsequent navigation for logged-in users, then there is no need to show "welcome banner" at all. So, those EU-based website owners who elected to stop spying (cross-site tracking, etc) have no issues at all. No spying. No banner. On a side note, nothing prevents them from using GDPR-complaint (Minimal data collection) cookieless tracking - there are a lot of solutions developed for this purpose.

I like this domain selling service.(DAN.com) It looks modern and has good functionality. Lots of people are selling domains there. I was their client in the past, but prefer classics(Sedo and Godaddy). But still, there are lots of interesting offers on DAN.com

Can we get a reply a Dan rep about this please?

Suggestion for DAN: Add a column on domains for sale dashboard so we can see Whois expiration date for each domain. This would make it SO EASY for us to delete expired domains from our portfolios and avoid that all too common error unable to add domain to portfolio because another DAN user has not deleted it from their account. All other services like Dynadot, SAV, etc, make it easy to see expiration dates for domains... why can't DAN do the same? You think showing us the date domain added to DAN portfolio is useful? 😕
Good afternoon @Maxxo
We love your enthusiasm for sharing suggestions! Showing Whois expiration data for millions of domain names across thousands of accounts is not an easy thing to achieve, but this is something we can revisit in the future.

Best regards,
Dan.com

Our cookie banner does get a lot of feedback in this thread at NamePros. We see it, and we discuss that feedback. Ultimately, we are displaying what we're required to in a way that fits with our high standards of design.

Sorry for missunderstanding.
Please don't feel you should apologize. You didn't misunderstand a thing. You gave your thoughts on DAN. What you wrote was on-topic and appropriate for the official DAN thread. I'm sure @DAN.COM likes seeing happy feedback amongst the complaints and suggestions.

This thread is created to act as an informal communication board between the DAN team and the domain community. Feel free to post feedback here and to discuss how you use DAN.

Keep posting, and welcome to NP. Most of us are a bit nicer to newcomers.

Someone recently pointed out to me that while the traffic display you use for sellers is clear (can choose daily, weekly, monthly) that the publicly displayed traffic stats does not indicate if the values given are per month (they are), per week, per day or something else. Would it be possible to add wording to clarify this please?
TrafficStatsRes.png

Secondly, I know I have asked this a few times over the years, but would like to mention again that the plotting that moves the graph to 0 at the start of each month is deceptive. For example, the above seems to indicate that traffic has dropped off precipitously recently, but it is just the way Dan plots its graphs, and by end of month will be about the same as all the other months. If it is not easy to plot on a rolling 30 day basis, it would be less misleading to only show data up to the last complete month, and then a cutoff of the graph. Thank you. The data scientist in me groans every time beginning of month rolls around and I see this.

Thank you for having such a robust and efficient marketplace, one that offers those selling domains the ability to customize the display of the lander very effectively.

Everyone should know for US based buyers Dan.com can be troublesome for credit card payment, a friend of mine was buying a $2500 USD domain via dan lander for BIN, their credit card kept getting declined, lucky for them it was dual listed on Godaddy, they were able to go over there and just checkout using the same credit card without fail. So I am noticing alot of non payments, and not being able to communicate with buyer during checkout process, sales could be lost.

Can you tell us if you are REQUIRED to make the cookie banner so LARGE ?

I contacted them about this back in the day as well. This is why I do not use the graph on any names I have pointed to DAN. I would rather them stop statistics at the end of the last whole month than show the inevitable 'dive' at the end of the chart.

@DAN.COM could you check if this is happening and if yes fix it?

Thanks

Dan does not accept AMEX either, even though Godaddy/Afternic do, another potential problem with end users not being able to pay, very simple solution to fix. If the small mom and pop grocery store can, why can't Dan?

@DAN.COM

Please pay attention (again) to your server capacity and configs.

I'm seeing these errors more often these days.

Thank you.

I agree. Also seems DAN could also do a better job of optimizing/caching the lander pages. Sometimes (randomly) it will take 5 seconds or more to load a domain for sale lander page. Even with a FAST internet connection.

Thanks I understand that's a ton of data to process if you do it a certain way. But would it be very resource intensive if when a DAN user adds a domain to their portfolio then you could run a one-time check just for that domain and fetch the whois expiration date? This way you don't have to query WHOIS all the time to keep all DAN users domains updated... just the one time expiration date value for when user is adding domain to portfolio.

Do the high standards of design include completely blocking out your main selling points of using DAN on the domain sale landing page to new first time potential buyers? See screenshots... with popup vs. no popup. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Let's face it, many people are turned off by opt-in pop-ups no matter what they are for. Simply by changing the pop-up size (font-size) and dimensions/placement, you could still comply with gov regulation and probably increase the ever important click-thru sales funnel. Isn't it worth at least A/B testing to see if this theory is correct?

And that's the desktop view. On mobile the popup covers half the page. It's terrible. One has to wonder if GoDaddy is finding ways to push sellers from Dan to Afternic.

DAN domain sale lander pages don't seem to perform very well in SERPs. I've tested self-hosted domain lander pages vs. pointing to DAN lander pages (DNS) and self-hosted pages seem to do much better in Google search results. Anyone else having similar or different experience? Please take note @DAN.COM

I also hate the wording of Dan's cookie consent banners. Those are basically saying that they use cookies to help themselves, not to improve user experience.

And the design theme of Dan's homepage (especially space rocket) makes it look like a crypto site.

Your web page contact form isn't working for me.

The message given is: "This websie is not within the supported domains for this Sitekey."

So is there an email address recommended instead for customer support Some rogue sellers have listed about 2/3 of my portfolio on DAN. The fake listings need to be removed, with appropriate action taken against the unauthorized sellers.

And Dan, you really need mandatory verification, like Sedo. Eliminating this recurrent problem may help you and Afternic from losing even more customers.
