Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Another piece of feedback that I think quite a few sellers would appreciate (myself included).

Would you consider increasing the maximum percentage of Premium domains that can be listed as Make Offer or Price Request from the current 10% to perhaps 20%?

I think giving sellers a little more flexibility in how they price and negotiate their domains would be a welcome improvement. 🙂

Thanks @Atom.com for implementing this feedback so quickly :)
It works wonders! The threshold seems to be now 20%

@Atom.com wholesale portfolio commission is 7.5%. Atom Pay bundle commission is 4.5%. I'm wondering if there is a reason that the folio remains at 7.5%? After all, we can just create an Atom Pay checkout bundle and save. Unless there is some discovery/marketing for wholesale folios (the single names are shown in the wholesale marketplace) it seems to me the commissions should match at 4.5% now. Or at least the wholesale folio commission should be 5% (like it is for single names). Please consider

@Atom.com can we have a make offer alongside buy now and LTO in the lander? For premium domains you can have the same minimum offer as the least allowed to list for buy now.

@Atom.com I support this suggestion. Please allow "Make Offer" option on Premium names.

I never understood sellers who do this. You de-anchor the BIN when you place MO alongside it.
It reads to me as unprofessional since it shows a price but the MO tells every buyer, we'll take less.

I know some disagree with my perspective

Agreed, but the way to use mitigate that is to crank up your BIN price a bit if you also also want to use MO.

If there is an option, sellers can chose if they want the MO alongside the BIN - some like me may think from a different perspective.

Columns with the appraisal and TLD count in Atom Registrar's domain manager, cool. I think they took inspo from dnx for this one.

Interesting appraisal by Atom's tool.
I bought a dictionary word in .ai and .si
The .ai was instantly approved and the .si was rated unlikely (alt options could've been human review required or low). Yet, it gave the .si version it's worst rating while accepting the .ai

Atom may have accepted .si for premium curation but at least in this singular instance treats .si as a new unproven kid on the block (not arguing, just mentioning)

Has anyone renewed .com domain names at Atom this morning and the order did not process? The message in progress that usually takes seconds has still not completed 25+ minutes later. I tried assistance but did not (this time) get useful help. They just showed the names were in my account, which I knew of course, I was renewing them and that was not processing.

@Atom.com if you are reading this – on today of all days you don't want a .com renewal issue.

-Bob

Summary of problem:
  • Put in renewal order for multiple domains, multiple years.
  • Paid from Atom Account Balance so not an issue there.
  • After press to process order the message persists that in progress on all.
  • Domain names have not had update in registration expire.
  • No emails that order processed.
  • I have tried refreshing page on Chrome, but it is not a display issue, it seems the names are not renewed.
  • Reported via chat help and they simply said those names active in your account, missing what problem is, trying to renew them.
UPDATE - My .com renewal order has finally completed. Hopefully things are now fixed.

I am about to try some more renewals. Will update here if there are any new problems.

End of day update: I renewed a zillion .com today (well not exactly) and everything at Atom was smooth for all of them after that poor start to my day.

@Atom.com dev team:

view-source:https://www.atom.com/dashboard/auctions/domains

The source of the My Auctions page now contains 28,756 lines (!) which seriously slows down my system across all open tabs.

Looking at the HTML source, the page includes large parts of the general dashboard, such as notifications about delisting requests and previous sales, that have nothing to do with auctions. It also contains a private AtomPay transaction, which doesn’t belong in the My Auctions overview either. On top of that, all my 525 closed auctions are loaded every time the page opens or reloads. Closed auctions shouldn't be loaded up front. It would be better to load only active auctions by default and fetch closed ones on demand.

Please remove all bloated content from the My Auctions page and make the My Auctions page usable again.

Thank you.

@Atom.com the "see it live" sometimes show over the logo/TLD on the web. It almost always shows over the logo on mobile. New placement or a fix is needed.

I've been exploring different marketplaces for brandable domain names, and Atom is one of the platforms I'm interested in learning more about.

For someone starting out, I'm curious about a few things:

How important is Atom's curation and quality control when it comes to attracting serious buyers?

Do sellers generally find that marketplace exposure makes a meaningful difference in sales, compared with listing names independently?

I'd also be interested in hearing about the balance between commission fees, buyer quality, and actual sales conversion.

Looking forward to learning from experienced sellers here.

No one really has a clue, as domain sales are probably the most random occurrence in the universe.

I would recommend this strategy:

1) Find a marketplace with the features, options, support, landers, commission rate/structure, etc. that best fit your needs and then use that as your home base for type-ins. i.e. set your nameservers here.

2) Also list all of your domains at the major marketplaces, especially GoDaddy/Afternic and Spaceship for their valuable registrar search paths.

3) Concentrate on buying sellable new domains and use available metrics to cull your portfolio of under-performing junk. Be patient, and remember, domain sales are random so don't waste time and effort chasing that "secret sauce" because it doesn't exist.

Over time, just buy the best domains you can at a viable price, and lose the junk - that's your level of control in a nutshell and don't ever forget it.

Very true and honest observation. Take note!

@Atom.com Which extensions are exactly supported in One-Word Alternative Extensions Auctions?
Almost all the ngtlds I tried returns a Currently we dont support .[tld] in auctions.
If the platform supports listing and sale of an extension, why barring the same in auctions?

It's likely closely tied to https://www.atom.com/sapphire/all

Are you domains listed there?
