Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Did they send you an email re Hilco ending the UPM partnership with Atom? Or?
I was told by Atom just recently. But only because I asked if Hilco were the ones deciding the price level of a name if it is accepted to the UPM.

I think the STR on Atom Premium is somewhere around 0.25% , so this equate to selling 1 out every 400 domains in a year. This is the reason. If you have 100 better than average premium domains on Atom , selling 1 a year is a decent result. So patience , quality and quantity are needed.

Most domains never sell. And of the small percentage that do, almost all take many years before they sell.

Having an expectation that you will make any sales at all from such a small portfolio is incorrect. Industry wise STR is possibly 1%. Run the math and you're going to find out why you have no sales.

And this doesn't even discuss name quality (which is in the eye of the beholder)

On another note, Hilco global was working on Ultra premium domains as a partnership so had a domain listed on Atom under Ultra, signed a agreement only to find out after two years they no longer work together.

The partnership with Hilco has indeed ended, but not according to their website:

https://www.atom.com/ultra-premium-marketplace

By the way, I had one name automatically added as an UPM name because it was listed as such by the previous owner. I wonder if I still have to keep it there for six months...

Hello, just to clear up any confusion: our partnership with Hilco Digital regarding UPM remains fully active and has not ended.

We have adjusted certain listing, onboarding, and negotiation processes to improve efficiency, but these operational changes do not affect our strategic partnership.

If a domain was added to UPM without your knowledge because it retained its approved status from a previous owner, please contact our support team. We will be happy to remove it if you no longer wish to have it listed there.

I would just make sure you have them optimised on Atom with keywords, possible uses etc,,, completed. List on Afternic and Spaceship (SellerHub) for extra exposure, make sure they are listed at 10% higher than your Atom Listing price (That is if your domains are Atom Premium listed)

That wasn't what I was told (I don't want to throw anyone under the bus by quoting exactly what I was told), but thanks for clarifying.

And for someone new to domaining, obtaining that 1% STR will be even harder.

Not only are you still trying to figure out what sells and what doesn't, but to make things worse, even if you have great names, seeing that first sale might take a long time (your STR will naturally increase the longer your names are listed, so starting off fresh is rough).

Expect closer to 0.5% STR or less (Atom Premium, Afternic & Spaceship combined) for the first few years, unless you are a quick learner.

Considering you have 28 domains in Premium this would probably be around 0.14 domains/year, or roughly one sale every 7 years.

But this is just a rough estimate, who knows, if lucky you could get one in the first year, or it could take 20.

You've already made a great decision by being willing to listen to advice on here though, which is more than I can say for myself diving in head-first when I first started out!

Got my first sale of the summer Black Friday event in the final hours. The domain was as Atom, so I received my payment within 10 minutes. That is hard to beat.

For reference, I had 1,573 Premium names before the sale.

All of a sudden a bunch of my already-verified domains need re-verification. It doesn't appear to be a blip at any particular registrar either because they are spread out over several.

Anyone else having the same problem?

Update: One of the domains is actually registered with Atom and is instant transfer, which makes it even weirder as I thought they skipped the DNS check.

escrowire.com

Probably has the most potential.

rehomies.com

I know what he's talking about, but that brandable is unprofessional for a realtor.

If this were targeted towards urban/hip-hop then maybe yes.
