“America will soon have a government that treats the climate crisis as the urgent national security threat it is,”

Leave it to the neocons to phrase it in terms of war. Nixonian talk.

Allies helped fight Taliban in Afghanistan, then Trump left allies and Afghan troops high and dry

People in Afghanistan are desperate for an end to war - but many analysts fear the Afghan army is not strong enough to fight on its own if violence continues after foreign troops have left.

What are you saying? That war is good? Even after 20 years of it? Why not send Americans troops everywhere? They can print all the money they need to buy more guns.

There really is no denying the fact that Trump was the first president in decades to start no new wars.

Have you EVER known me to advocate for war? However, IMO once you start something, you ought to see it to a conciliatory conclusion, and not before.

The accuracy of that claim depends in part on the definition of war. Other presidents have labelled them military conflicts. Although Trump may not have deployed full military force, his term in office has not been without conflict ie. covert strikes, Trade war with China and the current state of Covid-19 in the US. Thanks for your feedback.

No, I haven't. Which is why I asked what you meant. What do you see as a conciliatory conclusion, and how many decades, resources, money and American deaths would you devote to that before calling it quits?

So, no new wars - unless you dilute the meaning of "war" to a rhetorical device that can be applied to anything. No new wars at all - he deserves recognition for that, especially since the warmongers are back in the driver's seat.

I suppose the good thing is that wars will accelerate the inevitable economic collapse. Not that that's a good thing, but the sooner it happens, the sooner people start to drop their crazy behavior and sober up.

I questioned a large scale invasion to begin with. I can't speak for other countries, but apart from NATO commitment, I also questioned Canada's involvement, especially after having personally spoken with several veteran's who served there.

I dare not take that leap of faith, for violence begets violence, what sentience will it take before we as a species realize the Earth is our common home? Why does the military command such a priority if not for leaders who would abuse that power? Does protecting one's future require destruction and the violation of others freedom and security?

More troops No, less troops Yes. However, @Samer I think it's a little more complicated than that.

Do you believe the US presence has served its purpose in Afghanistan?
Are you saying it's okay to desert allies in an operation that US started?
Are you asking whether a full retreat in Afghanistan is responsible when conditions have not yet been met?
Do you believe Taliban have severed ties with al-Qaeda?
Do you believe the Taliban will adhere to a deal with Trump when all troops (and he) are gone?
Do you believe war is the way to peace?

That's just a sample of some of the questions I have if you or anyone cares to elaborate...

Ultimate hypocrite.
fyi Canada 🇨🇦 voted against Iraq War?
You are anti-war; yet want “ally” toil away.

“Do You believe the US has served its purpose in Afghanistan?”
Obviously. Why you scared. You live there?
You‘d criticizing “The Donald” for sending in more troops and you know it 😜

Let’s learn from history.
Our cultures don’t mix.
It was a failure for the Soviet Union.
It’s (not) a failure for US.
“Dont be scared, little one.”
“You couldve made argument our objective was achieved when we killed Bin Laden —under Obummer... I forget didn’t Joe vote against that (right) decision? Under Obama.

Personally, i feel Afghanistan can do more.
Bet you’re all for sending billions foreign aid.
“Let them take care of themselves.”
The alarm bells ring when you hear
“Troops coming home.”

For me peace arrives. wont be Libya 2.0.
Obumer’s Hillary’s fault IMO... another day.

“Do you believe war is the way to peace?”
What a loaded question.
If i want to withdraw troops; wouldnt make me “anti-war”? No “gotchya!” there
Questions‘ framed in a way.. nice try, disagree

I'm not so sure about Trump's ulterior motives, just having scaled up the military. Had Covid not hit US hard and had he been re-elected for another four years, I'm sure his record would be much different.

On the other hand, it appears Biden has some wisdom in his advanced years, like Trump, he also said he wants to end the U.S. military mission in Afghanistan and scale down U.S. combat deployments overseas.

“And we have to invest in our other elements of national power,” the former vice president told MOAA. “Our military is one tool in our toolbox. We have become over-dependent on the military to advance our security interests overseas and underinvested in other tools including diplomacy, economic power, education, and science and technology.”

Sending more troops overseas.

Worse for the environment ;)

Not hypocritical in the least, these are legitimate questions...don't throw spears @Samer.
Your allies, the people US sought to protect, not my country, not my war.

You have a silly way of interpreting questions, not a statement nor assertion. Believe what you will, I am at peace with the world.

i love Canada 🇨🇦 “Great White North.”
i love you; We share more alike than any other country — even Brits 🇬🇧 which founded & im guessing you’re of the “French Canada” type.
So divisive! Trump is the best;
Every move; (like withdrawing Troops)
you see nightmare worst case.
Killed ISIS leader, “Jihadi guy” too under trump
Bin Laden killed under Obama. No more Wars

Thank you for the salutation. Canada ended active combat involvement in Afghanistan almost a decade ago, troops remained to train and mentor Afghan nationals until 2014.

CA remain min involve in world affairs and you criticize us for doing opposite..?

What role think US should play?
Feel bad terrible ever single troop overseas...
It wasnt “Vietnam bad” but; “time come home.” assume; JB wont return us to endless wars.

Trump:
NO WARS started. BROUght TROOPS home!
(Closest, with Iran; thankfully keep fighting em.
I repeat; i worry Biden return us to Iran deal.,
Keep hitting them sanctions; working; better.
i think my bias for Iran comes from the fact one few (bullies) not acknowledge Israel; still sad. Like the terrible Iran Nuclear deal (in hindsight)

You just can't bring yourself to admit it, it seems. No new wars under Trump. Let it be noted.

On the other hand, it appears Biden has some wisdom in his advanced years, like Trump, he also said he wants to end the U.S. military mission in Afghanistan and scale down U.S. combat deployments overseas.

And yet, while you question Trump's motives and offer a lot of 'what ifs' you accept Biden at face value when he makes the same promises that warmongers have been making for decades. Despite his long track record as a total warmonger. Even if he were telling the truth, why do you criticize Trump for working to end US involvement in Afghanistan but praise Biden for it? The country will deteriorate either way after a US pull-out. The question is, how long should the US be in there propping up pockets of civilization? I have a personal connection to a female lawyer there - and I dread what might happen to her. But these are real questions that people just seem to avoid.

Why should Canada follow US example? We are known as peacekeepers, albeit blemished somewhat by our involvement in Somalia.

Would I be so cavalier to judge how US operates their foreign affairs? I can state my objection, however; it is my prerogative as a free citizen of the world.

In a word, timing. Why January, not May (as Trump originally agreed)? In order to allow the new president some latitude.

The U.S.-Taliban peace deal signed in February commits the United States to withdraw all its forces from Afghanistan by May 2021, so long as the Taliban meet certain conditions, including cutting ties with any forces that pose a threat to the United States and its allies.

Pardon my ignorance.
I assumed Canada’s involvement with Afgh
was same as Iraq. (negligible.. 0!)
I dont blame you; the burden is not on u to bear alone; it’s for all of us; that’s new under Biden, right? Biden’s followers are oblivious. imo!

“Stutter” i’m sorry! Not buying what you throwin
Oldest living President in US history still office.
The next guy (somehow) 3 years older;
Hopefully the cognitive functionality is there; Not “making fun”; Father Time undefeated.
Lucky the Media usually coddles Biden; luxury, Trump was never given. I pity CNN 🐑 imo

Canada did not go along with the Bush plan in Iraq. It was a clear break that could have seriously injured our relationship, but it proved that we are not US puppets. In that moment I was proud of our independent thinking leadership.

So divisive! Trump is the best

I noticed you edited your post, so I will comment on that. We do share a common history, and peaceful relationship. I am always surprised at the attitude of Trumpers regarding French being so divisive, and Trump is the worst, lol. If it weren't for French involvement, US could not have ceded from Gt Britain at the time. Am I of the "French Canadian" type? I love Quebec, though their politics of separatism leaves much to be desired IMHO. Without question I would let them go if that was the ultimatum. Even let them join US if they want to...that would be a disaster, lol. :xf.laugh::ROFL::xf.laugh:

You mean kind of like Trump getting excited about job numbers after that slowing down the curve period when the Unemployment Rate went all the way up to 14.7%? Then we came out of that and "we have the greatest numbers ever"............... after the 14.7%

The difference between the great recession caused by democrats demanding people who couldn't afford loans be given loans, and now? A pandemic caused by China.

President Trump isn't in charge of state lock-downs; curfews; letting marxist riot, deficate in the street and throw their urine at each other.
