So a friend of a good friend of mine has asked me to "help" him sell off his domain portfolio containing roughly 3500 domains. So far all I've managed to do is organize the 1000 domains he has with GoDaddy, and list a few of the best on Sedo, Afternic and Flippa. But as far as actually finding buyers, end users or dealing with the immensity of his collection .. I'm lost and overwhelmed to say the least.

wat do?

A few examples:
420NZ.COM
BITCOINPROBE.COM
CANNABISADDICTIONS.COM
CANNABISALPHA.COM
CANNABISCORP.ORG
CANNABISFIEND.COM
CANNABISGEAR.ORG
CBDFOUNDER.COM
CBDNANNY.COM
FORBIDDENSEED.COM
HEMPAROMA.COM
MEDICALSEED.ORG
NZVAPE.COM

..and yes, 90% are cannabis related

Wow....3500 names!!! I wish your friend good luck in his search for buyers...

Why do people throw so much on speculative buying without doing due diligence? :xf.eek:

Ouch, thats a very common newbie mistake, getting caught up in the registration frenzy of a new niche, believe me, it happens a lot. There are a lot of people on here with 1000-3000 names and no idea how to get rid of them, 99% will end up expiring and you dont recoup your money

With the Cannabis names, you can try posting the better ones on here to see if any of the Cannabis/Marijuana investors like any of the names. Don't expect a lot for each name though, domainers are notoriously tight with their money :xf.smile:

Good luck, hope you manage to flip a few of them

It takes a lot of skill and luck to find even one name available good enough to register and sell for a decent profit, never mind 3500 names.

Haha of course :D
I wouldn't willingly subject anyone to the chaos of the whole thing

I hope you're taking a cut of any sales for your time and effort.

Wow, big mistake. Putting that much money into a narrow interest in a business that is overloaded with weed domains is really bad planning.

Just do what @premkumar said.

Blimey, it took me nearly 10 years just to arrive at 1,000 registrations across the whole board, I think you need to prepare your friend for a worse case scenario on this one, I'm guessing all these registrations are fairly recent (ie $1 offers for first year etc) In which case he probably just brainstormed (while under the influence of said product) Cant imagine he has done the $30,000 + required for a years renewal.

If the examples you've given are indicative of the type of domain, AS said just list and forget, i can't see any return

Even the thought of the 10,000 plus renewal reminder emails coming his way is 'mind blowing' without a smoke

And I thought I had too many domains now that I am above 200! That many in one niche is like out of this world.

Even with recent interest in cannabis, with so many, it will never be possible to sell a very high fraction, I would think, unless selling them at basically registration costs.

i agree with those that say list on Afternic so they are out there, and glad you did that. I would probably try to get them at least one other place, or at least some of them, but realize it is a big list. I wonder if someone like Undeveloped would be willing to have a promotion on the topic with some of the better ones listed (kind of like the domain hack promotion currently), and then it would become the goto place for finding domains in that area.

There must be trade online sites for this area? If so if could join and mention availability.

If really need to drop them quickly, I would see if one of the big players with interests in that topic might take them all, but you won't get much per domain.

Make sure your friend realizes that even in sound portfolio about 1% sell in any one year, so realistically if can sell a few dozen doing very well.

I've seen worse names, i might've regged 2 out of the shortlist you've provided if I was buying those types. 3500 names wow.. I get overwhelmed with 300 at a time, lol but I don't do this full time. Assuming you don't have any liquid names or gems in there I would've listed all at afternic as well for $999 each, if they have some time to expiration. GL

When did domaining become such an easy thing?

Is it look easy?, the tough part is selecting & registering 3000 domain, he/she could have spent lot of time. Listing and waiting for sale don't need to tough rather its a waiting game.
