I am not a lawyer. So I don't want this to be confused as legitimate legal advice. This is only my opinion. The buyer may have made an agreement but no cash has been exchanged or accepted. No domain has been transferred. Neither party has suffered an actual loss. Varun Patil has basically stated that he entered into an agreement he couldn't and wouldn't comply with. Because of this Sedo should ban him. Basically no sale has transacted. Sedo should not be able to charge a fee for the auction nor will they. I don't like or approve of what Varun did. The threats Sedo is making is just a threat. Verun doesn't need a lawyer or legal advice until a lawsuit is filed, Any one can file a lawsuit but I doubt that will happen. I think Varun Patil and others like him lackt appreciation for legitimate business. I think that is why there are so many sarcastic comments. I think the best way to help him and others is by setting an example of good behavior and sharing good advice. The positive in all this Varun has acknowledged his error and is asking for advice, and even coming clean with Sedo. I truly believe Varun is sincere and will learn a valuable lesson from this incident.
Thank you sir you understand my situation,
I have send mail of apology to seller as well as sedo. They have cancelled the transaction. I have sent a mail for admitting my mistake and apology to seller. Sedo msg me that they have cancelled the transaction and I have to pay 800 USD as a part of outstanding commission

What? $800 commission for a product they did not sell? This is one thing I hate so much about Sedo - very self centered. They always go after their commission no matter what, while leaving the seller to wallow in his misery - SAD

nice guys everywhere

maybe you have never "sold" a domain to a "buyer" who disappeared

a contract is a legally binding instrument
to make sure
each of both parties understands their
rights and obligations
there is simply no way to accidentally close a binding deal

a normal contract has a punishment fee attached
if you leave the contract w/o the other party agreeing

most of the commentators here are hobbyist domainers
or no domainers at all

at least thats my impression

Sedo Transfer Agent
Dear Varun

Thank you for your message.

When you placed your bid on the domain name, you were informed that if accepted it would be legally binding.

As the bid was accepted a legally binding purchase agreement has been reached. As such you are responsible for paying for this transaction.
This guy claims that he made a bid which was accepted. At least that’s the way he described the alleged incident - one where he bid and the buyer accepted. If so the commission at SEDO would be minimum 15% not the $800. (10% for a BIN) that he describes.

I agree with you completely and I just had to play that card except I bought a domain and had to send a letter to the owner stating we had a contract and he needed to follow through with his obligations.

Contracts should be enforced and I think the OP is getting off cheap. It's a lesson.... suck it up or be banned.

An amateur will ignore the bill but if you use sedo all the time you have no choice but to pay. That said, if you use sedo all the time you sure as heck better know how to bid and what your obligations are.

The only thing that bugs me is that the owner of the domain gets nothing.... sedo should give him a cut of the penalty.

Doesn't sedo have a limit of 5k for new users to buy?

This guy Varun is probably from India. And I think is telling the truth as in India, Parents pay for everything and it's also normal for kids to never leave their parents house, never move out, So he dosen't have $5 . I think he was playing around on Sedo and didn't think anything he does on the internet has IRL consequences. Take your mistake as a lesson and be cautious on the internet.
Don't pay Sedo, as no transaction occurred.
This is not legal advice just personal view. Don't take is a solicitation to do anything. JUST VIEWS.

Be careful Mr. Patil. You should act in a responsible way henceforth. Don't take the internet as just something to have fun with.

As for sedo, don't pay any commission. just close your account.

I know how you feel. One night in Vegas, I accidentally gambled $10,000 at slots, got married, and bought 50 acres of desert land.

I felt terrible the next morning.

Kept the wife, though. That part wasn't so bad.

Sedo should call Mr.Patil's parents, so they know what is Mr. Patil's student life like. Thats the way the kids are taught a lesson in India.

What makes you think the duck doesn't fit the bill?

There are thousands of individuals with the same name - Varun Patil. All I can say is that there is no real evidence linking this scammer here to the "Varun Patil" at Behance. I get it; you are upset and pissed, but you are playing the Judge, judy, and executioner here. You just picked up a random "Varun Patil" and ruined his reputation. Is that right? I certainly don't think so.
