The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I moved all my domains from Namecheap not for bringing them back, even for few cents economy.

yeah
not a big fan of nc either
but that'll be a whole lot of cents if transfers work for co and io ;)

@mallers .co.uk is not in the list of extensions for this promo, so most likely no.

Guys, who knows, does this promo will work for co.uk domains ?
Unfortunately, the promo is for 9 kinds of domain extensions I mentioned above: .COM, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ, .INFO, .US, .CO, .ME and .IO.

I like NC, but it's always hard as heck to move domains during their promotions.

For instance, during this promotion, you can only move 5 domains at a time and receive the discount. (So, you have to perform 5 separate transactions to get the full 25 name maximum.) They are aware of this issue and deliberately throw up this roadblock to limit participation - Often, you can not get all 25 of your names processed before they hit their 51k total transfer availability. So, you may end up with only 5-10 names processed, and then they are orphaned on their registry - If you don't mind this, it's a good deal. (Personally, I hate having only a few names orphaned on a registry, as I tend to forget they are there, and forget to renew them or transfer them in a timely manner - But that may just be me...;))

PS - If you do try the multiple account trick, and they catch you, they will nullify your whole transaction and you'll have a wasted a day messing around with the promotion... Just sayin'...:punch:

I fully agree with you. but they need to put some blocks cause the demand is so high. maybe their systems would overload.. so blocks may be needed

all this put aside, i'd defiinltely not bother to save couple $ on .com org net biz ... cause I think their regular prices suck and their interface is slow and ugly. but when there is option to transfer io and co for $5... mostly io for me.. then this makes me think twice.

which is why I asked a few times if someone confirmed its valid for io co.. cause they say save up to 40%.. and with io co savings would be more..

Yeah, the NC systems are another issue... During promotion days they are slow as molasses... (Additionally, I would note that NC is one of only two registrars I've ever dealt with that actually "lost" a name out of my account - It was regged and all, but simply dropped off my homescreen list due to a "glitch" per their customer service. So, word to the wise, if you do transfer names to NC, be sure and watch your names like a hawk. On the plus side, their Customer Service is quite responsive and easy to deal with... Like most registrars, IMO, a bit of a mixed bag...)

Please Note:

Limited to 25 domains per household or business, up to 5 per transaction. This offer is first-come, first-served and is not valid for domains that have been previously transferred away from Namecheap.

so prepare your list accordingly.

From their exclusions:
Any domain that was previously transferred out from Namecheap is exempt from the offer

Does that refer just to domains transferred out of Namecheap by the current owner? If a domain was transfeerred out of Namecheap in the distant past, then later switched hands (or expired and was registered again), does that count?

For financial reasons I'll mostly be moving domains that are due for expiry soon (i.e. I'd have had to renew/transfer them soon anyway). But my first batch will include one domain from each registry that I've used for the first time recently only because of their special offers for new registrations. (Some have astronomical fees for renewals.) That way I hope to see how easy it really is to transfer out from them, while there's still time before expiry to sort out glitches.

I have transfer hundreds in and out of NC and never had problems. But lots of with some other registries hahaha. Funny how experiences are so different.

Get your domains prepped now! My system is to make a spreadsheet with the domain, losing registrar, auth code and lock status. Double check your admin emails are accessible AND make sure you opt out of 60 day lock if you make any changes, its safer to NOT make changes anyway

It can be really helpful to Pre-Fund your nCheap account, so you don't have to futz around with payments over and over, especially since they are limiting the domains to five per transaction.

Set a reminder NOW for the earliest time you will be awake once the sale starts - use this converter you can enter your own time zone
The sale starts 12 midnight EASTERN which is 5AM GMT March 6th
https://savvytime.com/converter/est-to-gmt

Here is a Countdown Clock
https://countingdownto.com/email-countdown/r37oDPlwvpQhsA

@Yaffa - it will be interesting to find out, same question occurred to me, especially for IO, they were always cheapest so how would you know if a domain was at nCheap, then dropped, then you got it elsewhere and now want to move it? Or on domains you purchased, either? The MYDD page shows they will have a Domain Checker that day

https://www.namecheap.com/promotions/move-your-domain-day/
Check domain eligibility - On March 6 (Move Your Domain Day), a search bar will appear for you to check whether your domain is eligible for transfer to Namecheap.

@alcy - In the email they sent: Available on these TLDs Domains include: .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us, .me, .co, and .io.
So personally if something goes wonky, my plan would be bug support to honor the email, plus if you look at the MYDD page above all those extensions are listed as well.

now for everyone...

do not take my word for it as I will not be held responsible for what THEY told me..

but here is what they said when I asked them that given the limits of 25 per user, will they guarantee there will be enough domains for ALL who try to tranfer within the promo timeframes.. here is their reply... but again, take it as you please. I personally will not wait til last minute.. but.. i personally will not rush either. you do what you want... or your welcome to double triple check with them.. chat or what not..

@alcy, I hope you are correct... Here's the disclaimer language on the NC site - It seems to indicate only a 51k limit for their donation obligation, but I can affirm that in past promotions they have had limitations on the total domains allowed to participate in the promo. (Hopefully, they have now changed this policy - Still, as you noted, I wouldn't wait until the last minute...;))

Disclaimer:

"Namecheap will operate a tiered donation system. We will donate $0.50 to EFF per domain for the first 10,000 transfers. The donation amount will go up to $1.00 per domain for the subsequent 10,000 domains, and up to $1.50 for the domains transferred after 20,000 (up to a maximum of 51,000 transfers)."

hey bud

indeed...

it does say max 51k for the 1.5$ donation fee.
which still does not speak of total limits. if any.

do you remember if in past, when they had those limits, they also limited per person #transfers? or what kinds of limts per person they had? 40? 50? 25?

I also emailed Namecheap support and was told that they are only transferring a maximum of 51,000 domains at a discount. So I just had a support chat to see which is correct and was told again that when 51,000 domains have been transferred, the discount will no longer apply. I have suggested that they update their FAQ and disclaimers to make this clear.
