Hello everyone,

I am working with a partner to develop a new drop-catcher. I am interested in discussing the project and listening to your suggestions.

  1. How much should a backorder cost?
  2. How long should an auction run (3, 5 or 7-days)?
  3. What is your preferred payment method (Paypal or...)?
  4. What are the most important features you need?
I will also need some beta testers in he coming month.

If you're interested in the service and would like to be part of the development process, please answer the question above and let me know that you're interested.

Please keep all comments, suggestions and beta requests in thread.

Thanks,
Shane

A preliminary estimate for the price of a backorder is $30.

We are planning on a 3-day auction format.

We can instantly transfer a domain upon receipt of payment.

We are thinking of accepting payments through Paypal, Credit Card and Escrow.com. The latter being for high value domains, to eliminate the risk of chargebacks.

Agreed. Thats the best i ever heard. Add me on beta tester.

Thanks

Would anyone object to a $30 deposit upon signup that stays in your account and is refunded if you close your account. This would help us eliminate non-paying bidders for backorders that don't go actually go to auction.

RU, that's racist. :P

Naw, RU is race/ist(.com). :)

Don't know much yet about using drop catching services so won't comment, but if you're still interested in more bodies, I'd take a shot at beta-ing yours.

I like the suggested pricing at 30. I think that could be a huge draw. you may have answered this already but when does my card get hit? Once the auction is done or at the time of the backorder? Simple and clean interface is a must. Don't over complicate it. You guys all got the payment options down. Count me in for beta I would be happy to help.

Thanks for the comment. Your card would get hit after the domain has been caught and the auction (if applicable) has ended!

I think you should definitely add a PayPal option along with the credit card. Some younger domainers like myself still don't have credit cards and can't buy from places like NameJet because of it. Anyone else have this problem?

Great point! I'll add that to my list. Thanks.

I hope we will get something better and affordable than other BO services and i'm glad that you asked for our opinion here. Opinion Matters.

Good Luck :)

Thanks!

I'm very interested in tailoring this to fit the average domainer's needs. After all, that's what makes up the market!

Love it. Are you going to have pending delete lists and research tools available on the site as well? Excited for the beta!

We will definitely have a pending delete list. What kind of tools are you looking for?

IMO -

- No upfront costs.

- Keep the backorder price reasonable but not cheap, you'll likely attract bottom-feeders will end up abusing the system, going on backorder binges and not paying.

- Limit backorder auctions to only those who actually placed a backorder and be the backorder service known for this so that way more people will have the incentive to use you to cut out the chances of a public auction. Be known as "The Domainers first choice"

- Cheaper backorders for domainers who acquire Premium Memberships for an annual fee.

- Incentives for future/repeat business, i.e: Earn a credit for every backorder placed and paid for, 5-10 credits = 1 free or half price backorder.

Lots of other ideas, will post more later maybe.

The deposit is fine, at a later date. Not while still in beta mode IMO. If this work out for you and the reputation of your service is growing, I think that the deposit should be a lot higher to avoid the non-payees. The payment methods and 3-days auction sounds fine. Keep the features basic, simple and clean. No BS enough of that already in this business ;)

What do you consider reasonable and what do you consider cheap?

As mentioned, it will be a closed auction setup.

Premium membership is an interesting thought! Anyone else like that idea?

What do you think the deposit should be? $100?

Thanks for your input!
