Thinking of Registering a Domain

Hello, Friends.

I would like to register a domain but with pretty much different approach from what I learn here. I found it on deleted list. it is a 5 letter .net. By searching google, 3 companies shows with ONLY the exact same letters in their domain. one has the .it another has .in and another has .org.
If you were in my shoes, will go ahead to register this domain name and picth it to this companies? No keyword research in this case, besides the searches for this term is very low. So, what will you do?

If I were in your shoes, I would definitely register it. As far as the approach that you learned here, there really aren't any hard and fast rules when it comes to domains. Some say don't buy domains with dashes, yet tons of people sale these at remarkable prices all the time. Some say domains with numbers have no value. But in many cases that isn't true either. For example someone paid $100,000 for this domain www.tr3s.com Some say buy .coms only, but people sale the other extensions for big money too. I would love to have lasiksurgeon.ca In fact, I would rather have lasik.ca than have lasiksurgeon.com So yes, go for it, don't worry about being a stickler for rules. Besides if ICANN releases a mass of hundreds of extensions next year, you will see a lot of these rules go down the toilet and the .com value go down in regards to many words and keyword phrases. .com will be a king without a crown.:o

Thanks man. I will do as you have said and just yesterday again, I found out it also stands for a name of a place in philipines.

I will register it and see how things go.

I use Godaddy 99% of the time. Most end-users use Godaddy. I've made about 4 sales in the last 2 weeks and end-users haven't had a problem opening a Godaddy account.

I have a sale pending with a domain that I just regged that the end-user is opening a Gdd account for with no problem. If an end-user wants a domain bad enough they'll open an account.

Yeah, thanks. I still stucked with namecheap at the end of the day.

Here is why.
Godaddy site is just too cluttered with ads everywhere such that it makes it difficult for a first time user to navigate and the price for domain name is a bit on the high side when compared to name cheap. They charge $12+( that's what i saw on their home page) for a .com but namecheap is $10+

I may use godaddy in the future but now.

Godaddy's control panel and tools are much better , regarding their prices maybe you should visit that thread then :

They provide lots of coupons for registrations and renewals and their customer service is great.

When I buy a typo or change my mind about a new reg, I call their customer service and never wait more than a minute to speak to someone and get a refund.

I want to list my domain name on sedo for sale. How do you guys do it ? I just cant seem to get pass the 'Activate SedoMLS Premium' because my registrar( namecheap) is not a patner. Do you know any other way? thanks...

---------- Post added at 06:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:16 PM ----------

When I tried listing my domain at godaddy premium listing, it says "Domain is not allowed for Premium Listing."

What does this mean? But I have seen people reporting sales from godaddy's premium listing. Does this mean that theirs are websites?

List at sedo without activating the premium network option ...

Re godaddy premium listing i think your domain should be reg at Godaddy in the first place ...

You can transfer them to godaddy, if you think it is necessary.

So, basically they are refusing my domain name on their premium listing because it is not registered with me them? What if I had it transfered over to them, would that be solved so that I could use the premium listing feature?

my domain name is laptopexperts dot net and I believe that giving it the right exposure is highly need. There are other once that I cannot pitch to end user at this stage because I have listed them in order of priority.

For noobies I'd suggest sticking with .com domains. I think laptopexperts.net isn't worth much.

Let him say. We will have to see how things pan out. Haven't federer him self sold alot of .net? Most which have not searches.

We will see.

So, if I send the domain name over to them, would they allow me to list it on their Premium List?

BTW, I have 3 SOLID .coms. I only added some .net to see how things will go.

If it does not sell at Godaddy, I will look for an ens user. Period!

That is probably what you hear from people and have also joined in spreading false ideas.

When I first came here someone said I cant sell domain name as a Nigerian because nobody would want to buy from me, but I sold my first domain name with my real name and phone number in every email I sent out. I didnt even send up to 25 emails before a buyer contacted me.

Now you my domain name isnt worth much because of its extension, right?
I guess the following dont't either:

medhumanities.org $515

indianfurniture.co.uk $2500

companyregistration.co.uk $11,257

celebrationworld.net $555

israelstudy.net $506

inbound.net $1206

flightsthailand.co.uk $1613

humanresonance.org $1595

teach4nc.org $1995

You may choose to keep leaving money on the table.

People also win the lottery everyday.

You can't gauge the market value of an extension on random high value sales.

These "needle in the haystack sales" will always be around in every extension.

But don't go putting all your eggs in one basket over them.

I'm really glad that you were able to defy the odds and make a sale even as a Nigerian. But sadly, your nationality IS a strike against you when it comes to making sales. I'll be impressed if you close a couple of more deals in the near future to non-African end users.

I guarantee if you bought 100 .com domains and the exact same 100 .net domains and then sold them all over the next year and didn't renew any unsold domains, you'd have more money from the .com sales than the .net sales. Assuming you aren't trying to influence the outcome.
