The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
just for the record, in case someone missed it:
in q1 of 2023 we will see 3 new VR headsets,
Valve Deckard
Playstation VR2

& of course, Apples Reality One / Pro VR Headset.

In fall this year the new Meta Oculus Quest (codename Cambria) will be revealed,
including facetracking (just like Valve Deckard).

That means, that your face mimmicks will be shown to others in the VR, so people can actually 'look you in the eyes' and see your mood.

Great times ahead.

Some observation of the last DNJ sales report.

Many of the names I see there have one of these truths outside of not being in our niche.

Many names 10 years ago would have sold in the range of 500 - $1200 are now $2k - 5k

Many more are branding names , so a play on spelling. Likely from cost/supply issues. But a indication of start-ups that are not reliant on facebook for their identity.

Many 3 word domains that would have been rare a decade ago. And double hyphenated names.

As Rick Schwartz would say, it starts with a need or a want.

The chart basically is showing me that future pool of availability is a major factor as well.
Still better investments than bonds if you can stand the test of time and watch your overhead.
But it does bring to mind the few one real word domains value that I hold. It may be higher than I thought.
I would say that over 2 decades that I have dropped higher quality names than are on that chart by conventional valuation terms anyway. Hard to value alt-spelled branding names. Worth what they are willing pay, but hard to guess that need.
Just some 'time' perspective. You gotta wait it out.

Quest Pro as well (I think before xmas)
HP has a new one (perhaps out there now) and I think there will be plenty to choose from.
We will see the sales.

Many other vendors are expecting Apple's release and trying to market ahead of it. (meta)
I think the attention will be there for the industry in any case and things only grow from there.
Not everyone will be able to afford the Apple device. They will have to settle on <$500 devices.
I want to see the software industry fill that initial demand. Those are name sales waiting to happen.

I am going to buy the Quest Pro unless it is significantly over $1K. I really want to try out the mixed reality on it. Also watching movies on it should be great. Zuckerberg teased it yesterday with a short video of him fencing in AR. https://uploadvr.com/zuckerberg-quest-pro-mixed-reality-fencing/
I have Fence VR , which also has more potential uses than fencing.

Apparently, Zuckerberg is attending a UFC event this weekend. I wonder what that could be about? Pretty sure it must be related to the Meta Quest Pro. Either an official UFC VR game, or more likely a tie up with Meta on broadcasting the UFC live in VR.

CAGR rate of 13%? Nonsense. Most of these sales forecasts are worthless. The only one that carries any weight as far as I know is IDC. The market grew 91% in 2021, despite no major new VR headset. In the next 6 months alone - Pico 4, Quest Pro, PSVR 2, Apple Reality Pro, and possibly the Quest 3. All these will be capable of AR too.

It appears competition is still going up....

https://mixed-news.com/en/htc-announces-new-small-vr-headset-is-it-vive-flow-2/

Also, it looks as if all new major hmd's have pseudo AR or passthrough AR or xr/mr, whichever term you prefer.
Gotta keep up with Apple which is not even on the market yet. So, everyone is trying to announce or leak info ahead of that. Gotta stay relevant as it may be hard to get a headline afterwards.

For a good impression and immersive entertainment you have to pay.

But, how come, meta quest 2 was $299.

Yes, everybody knew it was going to be expensive. I would imagine that the Quest 3 will come out in the spring of next year, rather than at the next Connect in October 2023. Can't see Meta letting the Quest 2 get overtaken by all these new better specced stand alone headsets coming out. I wonder how many Quest Pros they are hoping to sell? I did hope after that mixed reality fencing demo Zuckerberg posted that it would also be aimed at gamers, at least fitness gamers, as well as business. They also announced a 'active' pack for fitness fans. I wouldn't particularly want to get a $1,500 headset sweaty or fogged up too often.

However much fun it would be to be an early adopter, I doubt if I will buy it, as it's a whopping 1700-1800 Euros in Europe, and furthermore, the battery is only 1 - 2 hours, meaning you would struggle to watch a movie in one sitting. Don't see the point of making the headset more comfortable if you can't spend more time wearing it. Still, it's a lot cheaper than the Magic Leap or HoloLens, and it is the start of the next generation of computing.

Also think that if they want to make VR a success, they first and foremost have to focus on
a) gaming and
b) office.

Anything else, is just a side quest.

While I might agree on the face of the price point...
I don't think it was designed with anything less than enterprise anyway.
But this years enterprise will be next years consumer level. It will get cheaper when the sales fall off.
I don't think they will for 18+ months.. surprisingly.

But to the price point, we sometimes forget this is a self contained VR machine.
Your getting these specs and not buying a computer to run it.
It would be my opinion in today's market, it is a $900 device. And it may very well sell for that later if the sales are not there. Enterprise has been clamoring for just such a device.

I will not be buying one and not because of any of the above...
But I do think price points on most will change after feb. and I'm eyeing a PiMax 8x with lighthouses to toy with the field of view. And before I get there, a new $1400 computer is in order.
I am going to attempt this on a Linux OS ( a bit more work ), But no hurry.

But I see it is not for the masses, but you might see surprising sales of it past enterprise.
So, here is to better VR in our future... the kind folks actually want !

Pico 4 is already sold out in Europe. https://uploadvr.com/pico-4-preorder-delays-unprecedented-demand/ I've also read a lot of Americans saying they will order it from Amazon Germany or UK.

I might wait for the Pico 4 Pro to buy rather than the Quest Pro, as it will be much the same at $500 cheaper. Or maybe I will get the Pico 4 and the PSVR 2, although I will have to buy the console as well for the latter.
