I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Sure everything has a chance, but given what is available on the drops these days you need to be very disciplined otherwise you will just build a renewal portfolio.

What's most amusing is that I keep a running list of viable .CA domains that were not selected, and then wait for a big sale at Rebel, etc. and there are always ones still available that (to me) are better than what's on the latest TBR.

And I have sold several of these $1-$2 "pick list" domains later on, so it's not just personal opinion.

HI

I Tried to "push" or move a domain i just picked up on a drop to another person within the same registrar ( myid) but they say the 60 day lock applies?

I have moved lots of domains right after registering them as long as it does not change the registrar.

from cira

"A 60 day lock is only applied to new domain name registrations and when transferring a domain from one Registrar to another. When applied, the lock prevents the domain name from being transferred from one Registrar to another and cannot be removed early. If the account is locked for any other reason please contact your Registrar."

has something changed? or do some registrars interpret the rules a little different?

thanx

disregard....
as soon as i sent this i received info from cira the the who is info was changed on my domain, so it went through? but the new owner received a message that the process could not take place because of the 60day lock ..

If i would have just waited 2 more minutes it would have saved a lot of typing...

sorry

They convinced me to keep my names there. $
I believe prices will go up up when the loonie falls into th .60’s range
Daddy wants $14.99 to transfer . Ca to him now was 10.99 last month
Whc.ca is still 9.99 but that prob change soon.
I am into march renewals now, stay ahead of the curve

.CA prices really shouldn't change based on USD/CAD. The wholesale rate to registrars is set in CAD.

For example, I dropped 2 domains that both went in the Top 15 this week. To me, these are tough sales with no real buyer path, but seeing those on the list probably got people thinking of sugarplum fairies and how much money they'll make.

Haha, did you drop sugarplum.ca recently? I remember picking it up not long ago.

Exactly, but it's just an excuse to raise prices, the same way gas immediately goes up when oil spikes, even though that new more-expensive oil is still on the boats waiting to go to the refinery.

Nope, I tend to stick to single-words, key brandables or non-junk LLL.

My favorite drop this week, and you can just imagine an evil brother (couldn't play hockey, left out of the business) looking to make good:

TomHortons.ca

They shouldn't, but do. Godaddy tried 14.99cad to transfer in for a few days, its back to 10.99
My boss is thrilled with a low loonie, foreign countries see our produce cheaper, though China, once our biggest consumer of fruits is now a huge competitor, as you can see by selection in walmart, a canadian company

i just transferred last one out of sibername, got 2 @ 1.99 last year
Also noticed in my link manager, the registrar was listed as Name.com so they are reseller
USD come into play.
Also, not all registrars i use are in CAD, thats why i am doing renewals now that are due in May
WHC is a reseller of namecheap, what happens when they go to pay them off in CAD and they say that is not enough this time. We need an extra loonie, cause your 1.00 is only .73 .69 or .60

I also pay hosting in USD, efty USD every month a few pennies more cad to convert
Interest rates are going up, loonie is going down, big recession coming.
Turdeau should bring back the penny, were gonna need every one we can get

Stick to a registrar that is truly Canadian for warehousing your .CA portfolio. I have accounts all over as is necessary in this business, but I bring almost all of the .CA home to one registrar before renewal. Easier to manage, and if you get hit by the proverbial bus, it will be less headache for your heirs. And I get the best pricing all the time with no random price changes.

I'm 100% OK (actually thrilled) with the way CAD is going. A good chunk of income is in USD. My costs of living are all CAD. The majority of business expenses are CAD - but those that aren't are USD. So from my perspective, I'm either gaining on the USD->CAD exchange, or its neutral when paying USD bills with USD funds. What sucked was when the CAD was bouncing around par or worse for a couple years.

Now I'm going into a bit of a rant/tangent. I'm not sure how many people are aware of this as I've never seen it discussed. I believe there is way more threat to .CA prices from CIRA itself rather than from USD/CAD exchange rates... I bet CIRA will be raising wholesale prices again just because they can and no one is going to stop them. Their name is the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) yet they're opening new lines of business with your .CA funds that goes beyond their charter - which is obviously to manage .CA for all Canadians. Some of those lines of business actually compete against .CA. They're literally trying to help cities go register new gTLD's like .Toronto (reducing demand for your Toronto Geo domains) and as well as launching a platform to host other gTLDs (like .kiwi, who is their first customer). There is also their D-Zone DNS services (not provided for free to .CA holders, but paid for by your registration fees). And they are using your .CA money to do all of it. Seems like a major conflict of interest, no? And if running these side businesses is profitable, then .CA prices should have went down in 2018 rather than up - yet they didn't. And they likely never will. Anyways rant mode off :)

TBR run from January 2:

99 Domains Selected
Sibername got the top 3 selections, then Pool and MyID fought it out.
Overall Top 10 ranking: Sibername (4), MyID (3), Pool (2)
Notable Selections: TATTOOS.CA, HEALING.CA, CCQ.CA, GLOBALFUND.CA
Biggest Question: Why did YTJ.CA go so high - 4th overall?

Biggest Question: Why did YTJ.CA go so high - 4th overall?

Any chance the business information system by the name is setting up Canadian presence, or someone thinks it might?

It also would be nice acronym for Youth Training and Jobs for example.

Takes at least 2 bidders to push it.

Not really because the drops offer so much. I can see a lot of warehouse portfolios dropping in the next few years.

anyone here get tattoos.ca?
Tattoos.com was formed in 1995 to publish tattoo information on the emerging world wide web. It quickly evolved into a hosting service for professional tattoo studios websites in Canada and the US, then other countries.

Looks to have it's roots in Toronto

No idea on .ca buyer though.
