I Sold My first domain wowdelhi.com this morning for 150$USD. It really just came out of nowhere. I had a lead from this one for WOW airlines in New Delhi but we couldn't settle on a price.

Then I was emailed by a gentleman who had initially let go of the domain but was now interested in getting it back to resume his online magazine.

This sale comes roughly 3 weeks in to my experience domaining and I only have 20 Domains. The 1 per 100 ratio/year seems to be a rule with exceptions so far but I won't get my hopes up just yet. The first sale really just covers what I spent on domain registration fees thus far.

Hey @Kyle Mcclure .. big congrats on your first sale! :)

As for the 1-2% ratio .. that's only effective obviously if you're marking up your domains 50x to 100x .. but still 5% in a month is amazing .. best part of it is just getting some momentum and having something positive to pull future tactics from! Big congrats once again! :)

I wonder what an airline it is when they couldn't budget up to 150 $ for domain name which obviously fits them well...

I was asking much more than 150$ from them. I offered it for 5000$, they counteroffered at 500$, I counteroffered at 2500$..... they never replied xD

Congrats on a WOWy sale! It is truly encouraging to have a first sale for profit so fast. I commend you for thinking about who might want the domain name, and even though the buyer was not the one you first thought of, your approach was sound. Often in this business things do come out of the blue.

Clearly the the 1 in 50 or 70 or 100 or 200 domains per year is a statistical average (as @Ategy.com states markup dependent) and it does not mean that individual portfolios will be at that rate. In fact NZDomainer in his .com phase has a 1/1 ratio so far! Congrats once more!
