I just picked up my first domain with the .tv extension. The domain is H2OSports.tv. Anyone know anything about the extension .tv? Anyone seen it used? Thanks

Dot tvs always have great sales. One of the most consistent tlds. Much more consistent than any of those rollercoaster priced and inconsistenr renewal rate new Gtlds especially since great sales are always reported for past 10+ years. 360.tv sold for 65k a few months ago.

USA.tv was not sold for only 5 digits. It actually sold for 6 digits @ $125,000 by NP member @donnied79

Good luck with your new dot tv Bulloney!

Thanks,

With Tv expanding more and more onto the web some folk have faith in the .Tv being the most popular choice for video/tv based media. However it has been a long wait for some. I think from memory that Pet.Tv used to redirect to a pay tv channel? Now it seems to be going to a social media startup? Cat/tv and Dog/tv are also redirecting ......let's see what happens down the road? I like .Tv but would not over expose myself with this extension

What does a .tv cost to register, my registrar charges 50 bucks and I can get it on sale at 32.

Yikes..... if I had a lot of those it would really eat into my profits.

There are a lot of redirects, sure. Same as dot com. Probably same with every tld out there. I was looking for 2 completely seperate unique niches today in dot com. I feel like i looked up every generic sensible 2 worder for both categories and i found many redirects and many for sale in both categories.

Based on your pet and tv theme, Here is an interesting one though. Pets.tv is owned by Byron Allen of Entertainment Studios. His show is a full fledged video content show all about pets. Same story as Comedy.tv which he owns and produces. He has quite a few great ones other than those 2 i mentioned.

Coolest thing though about ES (Entertainment Studios) is he uses the actual domain name as the title of the show. So when you look at your guide you see the Pets.tv show as "Pets.tv"

$25 - $35 at Name.com, Dynadot, GoDaddy all based on your discounts if you are part of their superbulk or domain cost clubs, etc.

They can get expensive if you register crap and dont develop or sell. If you buy right, they are one of the top 2 best investment tlds out there, (2nd to com of course) in my honest opinion.

In Europe .tv is quite used, I do for sure see many more .tv websites than .net.
Apart from the USA.tv sale I've made many other XX.XXX sales and there are members here that have done better than me.
All this said .tv is still not an easy extension because it doesn't fit all the keywords and because it's very illiquid.
You can sell a .tv for 5 fig but at the same time if you want to sell something for liquidity it's not easy to find a buyer. I've tried to sell some great geo.tv for cheap (low X.XXX) recently and I couldn't (with great I mean ExactCityName.tv).

In case someone is thinking of investing a lot of money on .tv extensions I thought I would bring up an opposing point of view.

I cut the cord a few years back and NEVER watch tv. I stream on my chromebook while using headphones. I mostly use fmovies or bmovies to stream (the extensions always change - google it). Using my pixelbook the screen is right at my face and between that and the headset there cannot be a better experience for me.

That said..... how long before tv is a word that your kids don't recognize any more?
I don't think it will be a long lasting extension, I think it will eventually burn out as tv is no longer what we use. Screens will be everywhere and the idea of a tv station will be a relic.

So enjoy the momentum on .tv.... just don't overstock because I not a hundred percent sure it is a good long term investment like a .com.

I'm noticing .tv finally gaining some more traction. Seems like there are reasonable .tv sales on an ongoing basis. I'd call it the Twitch.tv effect. Twitch is immensely popular and increasing the adoption of .tv (finally...)

Dynadot is cheaper and there is probably cheaper again somewhere else

Very well said/written Donnie. Same exact thing here with me. Ive sold a half dozen-ish 5 figure dot tv domains as well but you're right about the instant liquidity if needed. Not so easy when you want a quick sale.

Not worried at all. TV is universal. Has been and always will be.
Whether you are streaming live broadcasts on your cell or just pushing play on your ipad i believe moving pictures with audio on any format will always be referred to as tv. The term "tv" hasnt changed in 100 years as much as the actual tvs and programming options have.

I agree 100%. tv has really evolved into a broad term encompassing most video formats/mediums and viewing methods.

I can't see the term Tv going away anytime soon, I sometimes watch "online tv" but I still call it Tv

Where I live in Victoria/Australia I recently purchased the custom car numberplate OTV so I guess it;s fair to say I am a believer in Online Tv

1 exception: Movie in the theaters. virtually all other video formats and mediums I'll refer to as tv.

Ex : i watched netflix and amazon prime this weekend. Id just say I binge watched some tv. Easier and people understand im not sinply referring to a regular old tv. (Shameless self promotion...im developing Binge.tv lol)

Some things tend to stick, although nearly all gone now I sometimes say I am going to the "Video Shop" which of course is full of Dvds. BUt as the shops disappear there are only Dvd kiosk machines at the supermarket and the local library if you want a video/dvd ......... as for Tv, it's everywhere, phones, tvs and computers. Tv is only growing it seems.
