Facebook’s Zuckerberg: AR/Mixed Reality Presents Major Future Opportunity

http://www.mesalliance.org/2017/07/...ed-reality-presents-major-future-opportunity/

Deceiving article:-

===
Mixed reality has the “possibility of being the next major computing platform,”

===

In that it's making out Facebook and Zuckerberg are on board with the 'Mixed Reality' term.

I've just typed "Zuckerberg Mixed Reality" into Google News and can't find anything of him using the term 'Mixed Reality' recently.

Maybe because this is a very new article from 2017-07-27. I also can't remember articles with Zuckerberg talking about mixed reality. But it is their job to be on top of the game with new tech. Things are heating up with the launch of Lenovo's MR glasses / headset at the end of this year. But a true and real mixed reality experience i don't expect from the cheap Lenovo devices. I see them more like advanced AR glasses but they do offer some basic spatial mapping / interaction with the surrounding.

Well Comic-Con brought as much to light with media & VR,
Now it's time to show off new VR/AR hardware just before school starts up so expect a steady stream of news starting mid Aug onward's.

Facebook/Oculus should be showing off/intro-ing their stand-alone 'Santa Cruz' at the OC4 conference
on Oct 11&12 and then I ran into this tid-bit on Samsungs stand alone.
https://edgylabs.com/samsung-4k-exynosvr-iii-eye-tracking/
(I think I have shown this before but had forgotten about it)

All in all, this is the year for stand-alone's and eye/hand tracking are a close seconds.
Google is working on a standalone AR that is probably based on Qualcomm's SnapDragon.
So it might also have hand and perhaps eye tracking.
So, just a few more weeks of the 'dog days' and things should be looking up !
Hope everyone got some vacation time in.

So you might expect some investors to be digging in as all of this is going on later this year, so it might be a good time to review your pricing. Especially for old BIN pricing unless you are still hungry for 'any' sale.

I bet that FB will be in sync with Apple terminology wise (AR, not MR). They'd be really stupid if they didn't anyway.

Whole body tracking for multiplayer...
https://www.engadget.com/2017/07/31/multiplayer-vr-is-about-to-look-much-more-realistic/

But I might add that at the speed of development, VR Arcades may have competition with home products soon, so it will be more about the speed of the computers and the actual experience content offered to separate the perceived quality with consumers.

Home versions...
I can see the old 'spare bedroom' turning into the "VR Room" sooner than I thought (even a back yard).
HTC/Valve has been working with vendors to supplement 'track anything' so I know it won't be long.
And they are working on the 2nd gen tracking system (probably tracks more and larger area)
If I remember right, by design, Vive Lighthouse can track 128 items position.
Perhaps it is 256, but it's more than enough for sure.
If something like this makes it's way to market before xmas, it could change the game for many.
Could we see HTC home versions to be shown-off at CES2018 and be delivered before xmas 2018 ?
Perhaps not, but soon enough I'm sure !

Not even close. They are one of the big players. They are a authority in the industry, because they launched it. Everyone is looking to see what they will do next. Their headsets have not sold as well as others but they did sell and make a big impression. Most people in the west think of Oculus, Vive and PS4 when they think of VR. They are serious contenders now...undeniably and still in the game. When they release their AR headset let's see how it goes...it could be promising...

What grounds do you base this opinion on? I don’t like Facebook personally, not on there anymore but 2 billion people are on Facebook out of the world’s 7.5 billion population.

They own things likes WhatsApp/Instagram and are at the forefront of AI/VR/AR, they’ve made smart investments and are always looking to the future (unlike MySpace before them) they aren’t going anywhere for the foreseeable future.

I was referring to Facebook the site.
Its dying.
Some smart investments, some stupid ones and the company itself is not dead.
Sorry for the confusing post.

I see a rebranding in their not too far future. They must rebrand.

Ah right i see what you mean, yeah i think the Facebook format (as it is now) as got 5 years left max.

I think Facebook themselves know this though, they talked about a Facebook in the future where people share their experiences/life in 360, whether this takes off or not though remains to be seen, i think a lot rides on how common and simple it is for smartphones to have 360 cameras built in to them.

I personally think apps like WhatsApp/SnapChat are more the future though, a lot of younger people now see Facebook as uncool with snooping family members etc.

AltSpace is shutting down...
https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/28/...rtual-reality-social-network-shutdown-funding

I some how find it plausible that someone buys the pieces and runs with it.
They have a group of know-how talent as well as intellectual holdings that makes them a attractive buy-out at the right bankruptcy price.
........................

I thought I might share some stats with everyone... but don't draw to many conclusions from them.
My keyword holding as it relates to new virtual media only topics.
So I do have many more 3D,Smart, Pod names that do not relate and are not counted.

VR - 120
AR - 23
3D - 55
4D - 22
Virtual - 7
Cam(s) - 36
Camera(s) - 4
Goggle(s) - 30
Glasses - 10
Teleport(er(s)) - 17
POD - 17
Smart - 14
360 - 10
Chat - 7
XR - 4
MR - 1
Of course some names may be counted more than twice... i.e. 3DVRcams, VRSmartGoggles etc
They are 96% .com's

Just some insight as to what I'm holding. I'm not suggesting anything from it.
I believe I bought my first AR name in 2009/10 and first VR name in 2011
Not that I had not looked at them for longer. Just none of the 'good ones' were available then and a drop here and there when nobody is looking and you have the start of a collection.
You can't figure out where you are going if you don't know where you are.... LOL...

KING.... LOL we all know that is your title.
Sorry to inform you,
1 XR and 1MR name I have for end-use investment possibilities,
the remainder XR's are to flip to those of you who think it is going to be big, but at the right time.
I did say not to draw conclusions from it. LOL
But yes,
this year I bought names intended for flipping since we are getting close to the demand side of the equation.
I'm not normally a flipper but it did seem right at the time.

Interesting new spending estimates for VR / AR

https://www.telecompaper.com/news/s...uble-or-more-every-year-through-2021--1206755

I doubt any of the estimates hit it close but they all show a near doubling year over year.
It is very hard to estimate spending on content because you are estimating the quality of it and the cost of it when it has yet to be produced and priced.
One very cool thing priced right can blow the estimates away !

Now here is a piece of tech that will make it's way to market (unless it is found to do you harm).
If not from these folks, someone else will do it.
https://www.roadtovr.com/siggraph-2017-gvs-ride-four-pole-galvanic-vestibular-stimulation/

I see future lawyers already licking their chops over this one... Passing electricity directly through the brain to manipulate your sense of balance, etc... What could possibly go wrong! (And God help the company using this tech when that first customer finishes playing his game, and shockingly, his sense of balance doesn't return immediately and he gets into a car accident... Again, a non-starter IMHO...)

Hand regged a few days ago.

XRJobs - com

To go with XRDevelopers - com

Because XR is a industry term (not consumer, yet) I would guess that "jobs" and "developers" are keywords that are essential to the "XR industry".

Are you reposting because you disagree? Or because you think that I'm being inconsistent? I stance is mostly if not exactly the same and you can see that reflected in the XR domains that I have...

Even in my last post I underlined the same point, which is that it's still not a consumer terminology. Is that why you are LOLing?
