Microsoft, Apple, Google, Facebook Place Big Bets On Virtual, Mixed Reality

With Apple’s announcement of its AR and VR strategy two weeks ago, and more or less concurrent announcements from Microsoft and Google last month, we now have a much clearer picture of how the big four (Microsoft, Google, Apple and Facebook) are approaching enhanced, location aware AR/VR computing. Since everything really follows what the companies at the top of the pyramid do, it’s worth quickly summarizing their strategies.....

Romy going cold on MR at 7:05?
I'm not going to argue with him, he can call it whatever he wants (the best way to predict the future is to create it)... but is it not just an 'evolution' of AR? OK, it's much much much better than the AR we have right now, with way more technology advances and features, but can't it still be called AR?

AR and MR/Spatial Computing are going to be displayed on the same glasses, at the same time, right? Where you can still see the world around you...

The only big difference in practicality will be when switching to VR.

The Mixed Reality glasses tho will be able to switch between AR and VR?

Thats the whole point.

I believe they wont use it to much until it will be clearer in the eyes of the consumer.

He's going ICE COLD on MR obviously. After hearing that I highly doubt that ML will be calling their product MR anymore. What he's also referring to is how people are misusing the term to describe VR stuff like the video below. Now Microsoft will be the only major corp still promoting a product that's supposed to be "Mixed Reality".

Corp CEOs want so badly to control what consumers and developers want to call their technologies, but it's not entirely their decision. AR has been in the media for over a decade now. When you search "Augmented Reality" in quotation marks (Exact Phrase) you get 22.9 million results because that is what everyone is talking about. When you search "Mixed Reality" there are only 490k results.

It's a no brainer. MR is dead....R.I.P.

As I have mentioned a few times... this x-mas season will officially launch VR to the Public.
No more beta. Required content is being created. Is it compelling enough ?
Everyone is getting Gear'D-up... even Sumsung
http://www.investopedia.com/news/samsung-inks-content-deals-its-vr-headsets/

Despite my catchy lead-in, I think VR will be in major media as a everyday event at about back-to-school time, or Sept in my area. That is the time everyone starts promoting for the x-mas season.
the question is, will we see a pick-up in names demand between july and sept as those start-ups try to make the season or will we have to wait till next year to see them make the train.
Most of the action thus far has been created by the big boys with lots of cash and no need for a name.
I do know that many have got venture capital to get started in their endeavors. Perhaps I am rushing them ?

I always thought to search for exact matches you type in keywords without any spaces:-

Ie:- AugmentedReality - Which brings up 27,000,000
MixedReality - 510,000 (right now), when i looked a few weeks ago though it was 3 million.

Everyone should (probably does) know that I doubted this all along.
But if you noticed, I was making a clear difference between
'Mixed Reality' and 'Windows Mixed Reality' (MR vs WMR) In my statements.
It is a 'platform' not a tech.
And Microsoft has the grounds to continue it's path to use the term as a MARKETING term.
It just does not have the meaning that many suppose.(just wishful thinking)
And that has been the point if anyone now understands it. Or go back and read it again.
Mixed Reality term use of MS is just the idea that you can have VR and AR devices interact with each other on the same OS.
But I am use to most over-reacting to news tid-bits. And take the heat for trying to 'cool the engines'.

I will say what Intel is up to is truly unique in a way. But it remains to be seen what is actually delivered in a consumer product.

Disappointed Intel never showcased or used the term 'Merged Reality' at E3.

They never showcased Project Alloy though, so maybe that will be for another event.

I did notice that also. But like most, they have to watch the consumer headwind in what things will actually be marketed as, truth or not. It's big money to ignore it.
I have always thought this would either straighten itself out by this years end or be chaotic for the consumer.

But, I really think they are a bit behind of development and will not give us a real 'peek' til CES2018.
But we will have a solid naming convention by then.

Intel’s E3 conference was more about new partnerships more so than actual developments in tech.

I think they are still behind the term though, i keep track of whats happening regularly and a Intel representative did this conference a couple weeks ago:-

Rony Abovitz still officially refers to the tech as "Mixed Reality Lightfield".

Just last week he even made a post about spacial computing, which he's spoken about in the past a lot. He then said in his next post "we at Magic Leap are focused deeply on our Mixed Reality Lightfield.

He's not gone off the mixed reality term and he still refers to their platform being MXRL which they own the trademark for:
