Palmer Luckey chimes in on VR / AR naming conventions:

Palmer’s Post-Oculus Interview, Part 3: Neural Links, Recorded Memories, & Revolutionizing VR, Again

MoguraVR:

Let’s talk about the functions next. Lately several concepts besides VR have been presented such as AR, MR and Augmented VR. What do you think about this?

Palmer Luckey:

I don’t really care how people call it. In the end it will always just be VR or AR glasses, and I think at some point both will be in the same device. You will be able to go from the real world to the virtual world and you will also be able to experience a mix of the virtual and real world. The name for that might be MR, XR, AR or VR, the name varies from person to person [laughs].

In another section, Palmer notes:

Ultimately, these cameras will be installed in VR/AR sunglasses that everyone will wear and always will use it to perform scans.

Italian company doing something with Merged Reality:-

Not had a chance to look on their site yet, but looks promising.
Truth be known, there is very little difference between those Acer (and many others) HMD's and intel's Merged HMD. The main differences are more software/firmware related.
I have known that all along, but it is interesting to watch the game be played.
I'm quite sure Intel's unit will be a bit price heavy in comparison and expect the resolution and field of view (fov) to be a bit higher.
Their success is more dependent on the software dev's getting them and having incentive to write code for their use. That starts with selling the hardware to a lot of consumers.
They should be able to view VR in a great way so they have the same chance as anyone else making
the so call mixed reality HMD's.

So, in saying that, perhaps most will understand my POV that a lot will depend on the development packages each put out there to make making content easier and cheaper and faster.

Audio Factory’ is a Compelling Showcase of Google’s Spatial Audio Engine for VR

Google has released a Daydream VR app called Audio Factory, a polished and even entertaining demonstrating their Spatial Audio Engine for VR. Described as “VR’s second sense”, spatial audio is a key aspect of maintaining a high level of immersion, and all major VR platform providers offer their own solutions as part of their SDKs, including Google.

‘Direction’ in VR—as in, how to effectively direct the user’s attention when they are allowed to look wherever they please—is still a major design challenge for many VR content creators who are making the leap to this new medium. Although sight is clearly the leading attention-getter, how can you draw the user’s attention to what’s outside of their field of view? With their new Daydream app, Audio Factory, Google has effectively demonstrated the answer: spatial audio; that which sounds as if it’s originating from a distinct source within the VR environment.

@gbs domain, I really like the way Holo.ly flows off the tongue... Good luck with closing your sale!
(Early on, I looked into picking up the .com version of Hololy, but it was long gone... I did pick up one similar name, which I liked because I live in L.A. and it has a similar flow to your name...)

Holola / com (Works as both "Hol-o-lah," or Holo-LA, IMHO... ;))

VR & AR Market To Be Worth $37 Billion By 2027

The virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) market will be worth almost $37 billion by 2027, according to the latest analysis conducted by IDTechEx. While consumer electronics manufacturers are still in the process of advancing their offerings and related technological breakthrough are happening on a frequent basis, the Cambridge, United Kingdom-based analytics firm believes that regardless of how the VR and AR market ends up looking in a decade, it will be worth exponentially more than it is today. In addition to conventional headsets that are already available for purchase, the future will likely bring a number of new products that are currently hard to define, with many tech companies introducing their own terms for VR, AR, and related solutions, IDTechEx says, specifically mentioning terms like “annotated reality” and “mixed reality” as things that still aren’t firmly elaborated but will possibly play a major industry role in the coming years....Read More

Just a note...
My' top 4' parking performers with Sedo this month (all vr related) revived a total of 136 clicks.
Sedo can't seem to attract good advertisers since the value of all those clicks is $0.03
I am never very happy when I see this (and I do often).
Time to start exploring other avenues again.
