It is fairly simple to work out BB's search rankings or algorithm. In a nutshell, the most relevant domain name for the respective keyword will rank the highest. Every other domain name then makes up the numbers or is randomly positioned in no particular order.

Sorry, but this is absolutely not how their search retrieval works. They don't score relevance of each name against each possible search token. They run exact match of token, then a "like" match of token. They then do some additional scoring based on domain factors, followed by some additional re-ordering again based on domain factors. Finally they serve the results. To understand how they rank names in their results you have to analyse the various factors they use to order the results as this is far more important than actual "relevance" (however you define this).

Very hard to discern patterns since everything is so dynamic. But something worth mentioning is that the upgraded search had the primary objective of surfacing older and pure brandable inventory. Not sure this adds much value, and being honest I think you need to run the numbers on a larger sample of sales than the above research to get added value. Maybe @Dnbolt can help?
Agreed, more data from @Dnbolt would be appreciated to produce more reliable result...

If someone is searching for keyword "liquid" BB will rank domains according to relevance. Example. If they have names available for sale such as liquid.com, liquid.ly etc, these will always rank very high - every single time. I have done my research and this happens to be the case 99.99% of the time.

There are many other examples,...eg, valve, unite, rose, phase, plus many, many more

Before I was thinking that you are defending BB just to be seen, but now I think that you are misleading people on purpose. How many people will look for keywords like 'liquid', 'valve' 'unite' and so on. Try to check the main keywords which people are looking for at BB, like tech, design, business, media and others and you will find out how many invented names are on first pages and who owns them.

What makes you think keywords such as valve, unite, liquid etc don't get searched? You have no idea...

I have paid way to much for my data to share it with you for free, but you could ask your boss, MM, maybe he will share some insights for free. Even without any data, you need just a little bit of common sense to see the difference between 'tech' and 'valve'.

There are hundreds of companies that contain the term 'valve' in their name. I can list all of them for you, but I can't share it for free with rookies.

I think that you are the last person who should talk about rookies, with 3 sales made for some second page featured names, received for the 'services' you are doing here for BB. I'm selling more names through my personal email, afternic and a few other marketplaces in one month more that you have sold your entire life, and I don't need any favours from anybody to be listed as featured anywhere.

I don't need to sell....I sit back and watch BB do all the selling for me. Why would I waste my time emailing and doing outbound sales?

Btw, i have made 4 sales on BB.

Hi guys, I've been away for a couple of months and I have a question. I have 3 BB accepted names and I want to sell them here. However I have never sold a domain with BB despite the fact that I had published a few in the past. My question is, will I be able to transfer the names to the new owner's BB account?

Yes you can but accepted names here now sell for peanuts (under $10 each).

I registered P/r/o/m/o/t/e/I/Q/./c/o/m on December 5th. For some reason it appeared on ExpiredDomains.net even though it was still within 75 days of expiration. GoDaddy even allowed me to seemingly register it.

I then submitted the domain to BrandBucket.

GoDaddy then emailed me saying the registration was unsuccessful.

I knew from the following previous email to wait until the domain was accepted to ask for the removal.

I emailed BrandBucket explaining the situation. At that time, I thought somebody registered the domain before me. I researched it and found it was still in the redemption period soon to be deleted. I had been waiting for this domain to drop.

On January 15th, I took a 12AM flight home from NamesCon. I landed at 6 AM and had to drive 4 hours home in negative degree weather. My radiator blew up on the way home. I spent the day at the mechanic instead of domaining. The domain was registered shortly after being dropped by BrandBuckets own @michaeljkrell

Any names found to be Pending Delete will be watched and registered by BrandBuckets employees?

I have always felt brandable investors benefit as a whole from BrandBuckets success. The director already has the most domains on the marketplace. Does a person in that position really need to troll domains submitted by their sellers to stay on top?

Since submitting P/r/o/m/o/t/e/I/Q/./c/o/m on December 5th, I have paid over $910 in listing fees publishing 91 domains. Forgive me for feeling mistreated. All I ask for is a fair marketplace like NamePros where the mods don't use information in our private messages to register domains for themselves.

Hey, Chris,

I'm sorry to hear about your rough trip back home from NamesCon.

All names that are not registered at the time of submissions are rejected by the reviewers. We would eventually like this to happen automatically at the time of submission, but this is currently our system.

Yes, I do still actively invest in domains and scour the GD auctions and pending deletes, but I do not look at a list of names that BB rejected because they are not registered or in a pending delete stage. IQ is definitely one of the "keywords" I look for in the drops, and it came up on my list as well. I've probably drop caught, or regged from the drops, a handful of "IQ" names in the last month.

Dozens of sellers email me lists of domains available for hand registration to get my advice on them, and to see if BB will accept them. I am always happy to answer these questions, and would never register a name that they sent to me. If you have a questions of any names that are available for hand registration please let me know and I will throw in my 2 cents.

EDIT: I realize that this was clearly a GD error, Chris, and you did not knowingly submit a name that you didn't own. For those that don't know sellers are required to click the check box agreeing that they are the current owners of the domain and have the rights to sell them.

A little of after a year since the above quoted fiasco, and BrandBucket was able to sell PromoteIQ.com.

The domain now forwards to SpotFront.com with the below image centered on their landing page.

I had another BB sale last week. Purchased the name for about $20 or so right here on Namepros about 18 months ago.

My sell through rate at Brandbucket - 6.25% of inventory sold over the past 12 months (2 domains sold - ultrra and recordingg)

Got an update - 3.33% of inventory sold over the past 12 months

I just have noticed that is possible that some of the BB sellers post the new name my company requests which are fake in order to get some good ratings which help them later that the proposed domain name is on the top. Do they have any tools to prevent this? Because some request are really odd and they are alike in structure grammar and syntax and even have the same errors.

Are you saying that anyone with poor grammar must be a BB seller?

Dude, seriously try to count 1-10 before you post anything. No offense, but either you dont understand at all anything you are commenting on, or you mean something different than what you really write. In both cases, as a reader this is like pollution to me! English is a second language to me, so if I dont understand anything fully, I rather try to spend more time understanding it rather than just just quoting every post with an irrelevant comment like you've been doing all through this thread. Sorry If I offended you, but please be sure that I meant this for your good and our health as well!

My comment was sarcastic - but you obviously did not get it.
