There are many marketplace to buy or sell your domains such as GoDaddy Auction, Flippa, Sedo etc. I want to know, what is the most favored marketplace by namepros members. Please share your favorite marketplace and why did you choose it?

Let me first,
I prefer to buy and sell my domains at GoDaddy Auction, because the marketplace is more familiar to me, and based on my personal experience, most of the offer and sales that I received came from GoDaddy Auction.

So, what domain marketplace you most recommend?

For domains I personally like GoDaddy Auctions and Sedo. But, I would include Afternic in the list as well because listing on Afternic will list them on GoDaddy Auctions automatically :)

sedo seems to have more sales than any other marketplace from the sales reports i have seen so far.

I agree with the OP. About 50% of my revenue, every year, comes from GoDaddy Auctions.

Agreed but I notice quite a bit that domains from afternic will show as available at auction on godaddy but when ya click the link it says...
"We`re sorry, but the domain name you are looking for is no longer available through auction." so think your probably better off listing direct with godaddy premium as never seen that not work where Afternic listings aren't consistent in availability on GoDaddy.

Personally I use...

Sedo
Afternic
GoDaddy
DomainNameSales

but most of my sales come direct as I use my own sales landers.

None offer from Sedo within 1 year and about 200 good domains.

I'm looking a new market. I'm trying Flippa and FreeMarket.

200 Good domains and no offers?

good quality domains always receive offers from end users/ domain investor ;)

@Gian -

Sedo - most of the sales are end user sales
Godaddy - good for LLL.com and NNN.com or numbered domains performed well here and you can expect Chinese buyers here
Flippa- Most of the buyers are website developers & domain investors.. if you are good at writing nice sale pitch then give a try..
DomainNameSales - They offer services to only large portfolios, so no idea
Namejet-Most of the domain investors are buyers here and good platform for LLL.com & numbered domains

Please correct if I'm wrong...

I'am vote for sedo
I received more offers from flippa, but I almost get the offer with higher price from sedo.

All marketplaces have different buyers. It's hard to choose with some extensions doing better in certain marketplaces than the other.

All depends on the crowd.

I prefer to buy a domain name at GoDaddy auction then flipping it. Simple by add wordpress platform then optimize it, after a few month I list it on flippa.

Depends - if the sites are featuring auctions or landing/parking pages. Typically resellers go to auctions and end users reach the owners through type-in on landing/parking pages.

It would be hard to sell invented brandables on parking/landing pages. Keyword oriented names do better with type-in traffic.

Why do some domain investors automatically assume that many non-domainers know about places like Flippa and Sedo?

I would say that the huge bulk of Flippa and Sedo users are domain investors, and the much smaller part are genuine end users who stumbled upon Sedo or Flippa by chance of a search. The end users do not know that Sedo and Flippa and the likes are respected market places, and few of them have the knowledge, and will, to find out.

I do not mean to say that SEDO or Flippa have not made some huge sales for some domains. But I would be willing to bet that a good part of the sales were either mediated by some broker or the domain was put up for sale there for escrow, with the end buyer already found.

Ask some non domainers around you if they have heard of these website and you will probably not find a single person who knows about them. :guilty:

I once put up a portfolio of some 800 domain names on SEDO, they were medium and low quality domain names, and I outsold SEDO by doing outreach myself. I did get some parking money and a FEW sales from them but I was highly disappointed by their capabilities.

In my opinion, just listing a domain name in some marketplace, hoping a buyer will pop up, and not doing your own efforts to sell the domain, is like leaving money on the table. It should not be your primary sales strategy to hope a market place will find a buyer.

This is excellent advice. On the rest of your advice about Sedo/Flippa, I mostly agree. But I don't really think it translates over to GoDaddy Auctions. Admittedly there are a lot of Domainers there also. But first and foremost GoDaddy is a retail registrar, which a great place to promote their auctions to end-users.

So far for me Flippa has been doing great. At least I can find good domain buyers over there. Other marketplace are fine.

Why is the NamePros marketplace not on this list?

Lots of domains are bought and sold here.

Favorites don't always have to be based on the number of domains sold. ;)

Yes it would make sense that Godaddy has more end-users than Sedo and Flippa being that most people in my office know about Danica Patrick :D so you do have a point. I am guilty of not giving them a serious try, I'll have to list some domains and see how it goes.
