We are ok with boobs and we are ok with men with abs (or whatever it is that makes them attractive). Ogling is healthy. Violence, not accepting that it is shallow and non-meaninful judge of people etc. is not. The most important virtue of this thread is respect for all.

What a silly, stinking rich woman. At the advice of her doctor, she keeps on removing parts of her body. Someday she will be hollow inside and her doctor will be stinking rich, from all the operations.

I understand she might, might have some health issues we don't all know about but to me it just looks like she just needs to eat more than 10 calories a day!

Not silly at all. She has the BRCA gene, which dramatically increases the risk of certain cancers, including ovarian and breast cancer. Her mother and grandmother died of ovarian cancer (which has a high mortality rate) and she has had several other family members with BRCA linked cancers. She chose her life over her breasts and ovaries.
Women who are not rich or famous would (and do, without the publicity) make the same choices if they can afford it. Most insurance won't cover the testing, more less the surgery.

If she doesn't die early from breast or ovarian cancer, these surgeries will put her into an early menopause, so now she'll have a higher probability of dying from a heart disease, possibly as a side effect from removing healthy organs, at which point her doctors will probably suggest removing her healthy heart and replacing it with a disease free mechanical one.

Because she's part of the Hollywood elite, she sometimes has no idea what to do with all that money, but some unscrupulous doctors (Michael Jackson's doctor comes to mind) can easily suggest some sort of a possibly unnecessary surgery to fill their pockets.

This sort of reminds me of male circumcision in the US, a totally unnecessary operation that is nothing more than a money making racket that doctors invented some decades ago,

Also, because she is famous, her public announcement may help spread fear among some women who look up to her.

Anyway, it is her money and her organs and her problem.

So here's my dissenting STS post.

It just seems to me that posts here lately have become increasingly dark in theme and sentiment. Particularly in regard to the treatment, or, maybe more accurately, mis-treatment of the female gender.

The "man cave" spirit of the thread just seems to have gone off track in kind of an ugly way.

Just my $0.02 worth.

If you are offended or think that women are mistreated in this thread just point it out. I'm of the opinion that no-one be marginalized on this thread whether man, woman, republican, democrat, or even Canadian.

I do not worry, in general, about the silly posts on breasts because I believe it's all part of self-mocking and sooner or later we get back to nonsense videos about grumpy cat or some of those cool pictures that Gilsan posts... or the nice comics from our leader.

if you wait until making a general statement it's uncertain to me what you don't like -perhaps it is to the poster as well. {I didn't notice anything too bad so does that make me immune to things??}

Exactly. And a 1 in 2 chance that you'll get a deadly form of cancer is a pretty good reason.

By "dramatically" I mean if you have that mutation you have a 45% to 65% likelihood that you will get one of those cancers. Her mother and grandmother died of ovarian cancer (which has a high mortality rate) and she has had several other family members with BRCA linked cancers. She chose her life over her breasts and ovaries.

I support Angelina's decision but I don't like that it's held up as a guide to the world as it is misleading to conclude that this decision makes sense for everyone. There are different ways for everyone to handle this - it was right for her and her family. Having a DM does not preclude you from getting cancer after the fact, not does not having the DM mean that you will get cancer in the short term. There are different ways and different studies with varying results. The one challenge in research, of course, is that there is little way to manage the "control" group because once the surgery is done you've altered the parameters for one individual without having a total genetic clone within the same. Every woman would need to weigh the risks vs the scarring (literal and emotional) against the benefits and alternatives.

The strange thing when this happened was the discussion on human sexuality that occurred. For some reason men without shirts in the media is allowed (non-sexual) but the naked woman is not allowed .... the question here was whether this is because it's sexual. Now take women that have had a mastectomy- they are allowed to be in the press shirtless....

So you understand the implication here. If breasts are sexual, are we implying that women without are not?

I tend to think that is not the case but it leaves a lot of people in a confused place when trying to say why women's breasts are not allowed in public. I am guessing it's primarily because men are jerks...but that's not really a reason to punish women is it.

Maybe I'm alone... but I think if you see these you'll be a lot less scared of the results. You can see that these are still people with vibrant personalities. Not on top of the stove, not in a microwave.
But in the oven.
You don't have to even turn the bacon over!!! Line your baking sheet with tin foil. Also once grease isn't hot wad up your foil & no messy pan to deal or the grease mess.
