Anyone else registering 3D domains?

It seems that 3D is going to be the the next must have technology, according to the big brands, they are all launching 3D TVs.

I attempted to find good 3D names but the best domains are already taken, I think in 5 years time or even less, those generic 3D domains will be worth a lot. :imho:

Anyone else registering 3d domains? Do you think they have a future?

Hmm interesting.. my 3dShowreel.com has had an average of 5-10 unique type ins a day since I parked it. :S Nothing great but enough to help kickstart development (150-300 a month if it stays at this rate). Ideas anyone?

I just received a low xxx offer on in3-D.com

I decided to send it to auction, so it's bidding now at Sedo.

My thinking is that companies will want a short .com for their coming advertising campaigns - and this should suit most markets (tv's, tv programs, movies, adult, electronics, etc).

Already dreading thinking what it might resell for in a few months in the future

:(

Wow, this thread sure blew up quick. Unfortunately most of the names mentioned here are the result of domainer hoopla. We've seen this many times. When are people going to learn?

You may have seen this before but this time its different
3D will blow consumers minds when its in the www. curcuit
This is the real deal
Sure some of the names registered are crap.com as I saw in the godaddy auctions
But some will fetch BIG money because there will be BIG bidding wars on these things

My latest grab3d.com

Hello,

I am new here and wanted to say I have about 60 3d domains. I am excited about 3d as a domainer and a consumer. I think many of these names will take off in due time.

Maybe it just feels so good to follow the herd and show off in front of your peers ;)

You may have seen this before but this time its different
Of course, it's different each time... the end result is always the same: waste of money.

Since you are new, a word of advice: try to diversify. Because you will find the names less attractive when you'll have to renew them :)

Hey Soggyindo,

Since all domains are just pure speculation, and this is a brand new hot niche, I have to say just think about the sale today. If you sell it and are happy with your ROI today, do not have sellers remorse tommorow.
Tommorow, it could have been worth less. Either way, It is good to see some 3D domain auction action.

Personally, I want to see a couple of 3D domain sales over 5k at the auction houses, that will do 1 of 2 things to this Market. It will then blow up huge, as everyone wants a piece of the action, OR it may just flood the Market with crappy 3D domains, and they will undervalue an otherwise Hot niche???
I've invested a little bit too, so I of course am hoping for the best for all of the good 3D portfolios out there.

Well, Best of luck to you with your sale!
Keep us posted.

Wow, this thread sure blew up quick. Unfortunately most of the names mentioned here are the result of domainer hoopla. We've seen this many times. When are people going to learn?
Well if they don’t register any domains then they won’t learn.

There is no reward if people don’t take any action, but here are a few things for new domainers to keep in mind:

It’s best to get in on a new trend or technology from the very beginning while the best choice domains are still available, keep in mind that only a very small percentage of the names that are registered at later stages are going to have any real value. It’s very important to learn the ropes and do some research before registering tens or hundreds of domains and even then you need to know that you are still taking a chance on whether or not a few of those domains are going to become valuable enough to help keep your head above the water.

It helps to categorize the domains in a niche portfolio based on end-user and development potentials, for those top tier domains that represents a new technology (less than 1% of the domains might fit that category) it might be best to wait until that technology becomes better known and more accessible to the public before considering to sell. Although selling the lower quality domains during the initial frenzy might be a good strategy since otherwise those domains have to be maintained for several years before they become popular with the general public.

Ultimatly it’s best to go with your own gut feelings, but balance that with what you hear from the more experienced domainers (especially if you are a new domainer, or new to a certain niche). There are going to be other new trends and technologies in the future, so it might be best to diversify incase one area doesn’t develop they way it is expected to. Already I see that some people (even new domainers) have managed to get some really nice domains, but they need to realize that there is always going to be some risks even with the best domains as far as whether this technology is going to catch on to the extent that everyone here expects it to. IMO
