There are no advantages of regging a .co because the visitors will go to the .com instead and if you have the .com, there's still no advantage of getting the .co because of the first statement.

I recently bought a .co because the seller of the .com was asking a crazy 7 figures for the two word .com. I'm happily using the .co. I couldn't care less if I lose any traffic to the .com. I think, over time, the introduction of all these new gTLD's will blur the lines somewhat between all the gTLD/ccTLD. It might take 10-20 years. However, I don't think they will ever be as "in demand" as the .com. The ccTLD's will always have a special place for the country they represent. But all TLDs will be just another domain. The advantage of .co is that is much shorter than all these new gTLD's, and still has meaning for corporations.

Furthermore, there are no advantages of running a business. There are no advantages of investing in gold or stocks, or anything for that matter. There are no advantages of inhaling oxygen.

At least that's what the voices told me while I was watching the clapping hands.

still better to use a .co than a .ventures though :red:

I do not agree with the first post and the handclapping AT ALL.

Do know that if the .com is not available => .co is the best alternative.
It will take maybe a year or some years before .co is very well-known as alternative, but DO KNOW that it is SHORTER then .COM, and ALSO GOOGLE PUBLISHED .CO as 1 of the extentions they consider as a GTLD and considerred as important (although strictly speaking it's a ccTLD).

And .... consider => the registry of some 50 new extentions extentions now (and many to come) is......"www.donuts.co" YES donuts.co and not donuts.com !
More important => they didn't even bother to buy donuts.com, which is parked and for sale, but PREFERRED THE .CO !!

Donuts is not a credible company.

I own some .CO domains and I'm not gonna sit here saying they're all that. However, I do believe your statement is somewhat incorrect.

You should ask Mark Zuckerberg if there is no advantage to registering the .CO extension..I think he would have lost some decent traffic from it.

What about the guys at Twitter?

For most people the .CO extension isn't gonna help them. Many new domainers should stay away from it and really try to focus on .COM only. However, there comes a point in time when brand protection is extremely important and you need to register even the stupidest most expensiveness domains to protect your company from all the squaters out there.

.co Rocks! Shorter than .com and modern.
Lets wait 5 more years.

I disagree with the original post. I do not invest in .co, I've been cutting down my holdings for a couple of years now, but I think quality keywords hold value in most of the extensions, to varying degrees.

Rather than worrying about traffic loss to competing extensions, I would think that the growth of apps for smart phones will end up having a larger influence.

When my wife wants a coupon, she doesn't pull up a browser on her iphone and search for 'coupon storename', then scroll through results. She goes to the little 'groupon' button or whatever, and clicks it. She doesn't know if it is .com or .co.

The main advantage is if you cannot afford the .com with the keywords you need.
Many startups are using .co domains, gradually moving it into public awareness.
However, when I had a site on a .co, I was constantly typing out .com by force of habit.
Also, browsers sometimes autocomplete with .com when you type .co.

Donuts is not a credible company.
I don't know what sense you mean that in.
They did raise $200 million from investors.
If you can raise 2% of that, I would say you're credible.

I think it is nice to have both the .co and .com for a serious venture. :)

You only really need the .com for a serious venture. That doesn't mean you cannot have a serious venture on the .co.

Anyone know why Cool.Venutures had their account closed?

Donuts.co. I don't make a point of studying this, but I'm sure there are lots of others.

There is no advantage of .co, unless you live in Columbia and then it makes sense.

Not only will you lose significant traffic - any print ads with the domain will be seen by many people as having a typo - but you will lose possibly important emails as well. I would rather build on just about any other extension than a .co.

Nevertheless, I have bought a few .co's for their resale value, as some people are still buying them.

Go Daddy are still aggressively pushing the .co domain name.
If the .com is not available (99% of the time) then the next suggestion is always .co

This alone will drive up the prices of .co compared to other tlds

I'm getting quite some decent sales of .co domains
especially lll.co's in the recent times
