information Top 10 Domain Names Owned by George Kirikos

Spaceship Spaceship
The name George Kirikos (@GeorgeK) may be familiar to you if you follow domain name news since George regularly uncovers previously unreported domain sales such as the $2.1 million Vivo.com sale. Aside from George’s regular contributions to the domain industry, he also owns a portfolio consisting of many high-quality domain names. In this article, we profile ten of our favourite domain names from George’s portfolio.

Please note that this is entirely subjective.

511.com

Just one of several three-number .COM domains that George owns is 511.com. Since September 2015, the price of three-number .COM’s have risen sharply to the point where this type of domain will routinely sell for high six figures. The number 511 is highly desirable in China from an investment point of view, thanks to the repeating “1”, which is primarily why we have decided to include this numeric .COM in our list.

Bulk.com

The first of many highly desirable one-word .COM’s is bulk.com. The phenomenon of bulk-buying to reduce overall costs is something that has been around for many years and is a business model that has been successful for many companies. The word can be applied to almost any industry, as is evident by the Google search results for the term “bulk”. The generic nature of this type of domain name can sometimes detract from the value, but not in this case.

Depot.com

Another incredible one-word .COM from George’s portfolio is Depot.com. Depot is a word that is used heavily by many familiar brands such as Home Depot and Office Depot and is a term synonymous with storage and warehousing. The name is being used to host an Amazon affiliate store to cater to the needs of the thousands of people who navigate to the website every month.

HT.com

With just 676 two-letter .COM domain names in existence, it’s the dream of many investors to own just one of these names. George is fortunate to own several two-letter .COM’s, which were regularly trading for seven-figure fees in late 2015. HT.com is a coveted domain in both the West and China with one possible Chinese meaning for “HT” being 合同 (hé tong), which means “business contract” in English.

Leap.com

Aside from owning and operating an extremely valuable domain portfolio, George Kirikos is the president of Leap of Faith Financial Services Inc. Details about this company can be found by navigating to leap.com, which in its own right is a prized asset. The short, memorable, positive domain name has likely had interest from many companies over the years, considering a number of companies in LinkedIn and Crunchbase that are using the name “Leap”.

NW.com

The second two-letter .COM on our list is NW.com. It is possibly one of my favourite two-letter domain names for several reasons. Firstly, from a Chinese investment point of view, it scores extra points for ending in a “W”, something that typically adds extra value to a short domain. Secondly, it’s a memorable Western acronym for words and phrases such as Northwest, Network or No Way. It has a myriad of uses.

Pal.com

There are very few positive, pronounceable three-letter .COM domain names, but this is possibly one of the best. Pal is synonymous with intimacy, friendship and comradeship, and would have plenty of suitors should George ever want to sell the name. The domain currently redirects to Leap.com.

School.com

Possibly the best education-related domain name that you could own is School.com. Currently housing an alpha version of a forthcoming website, School.com has a global Alexa ranking of just over half a million. The emerging demand for MOOCs (massively open online courses) along with the popularity of websites like Udacity and Coursera should result in an increased value being placed on the School.com domain name.

Options.com

In the world of financial investment, options are contracts giving a buyer the right to buy or sell stocks, bonds or other assets on a specific date. Stock options have become increasingly popular since their introduction in the 1970s, with options trading now very much a popular activity among many investors. Financial domain names have been highly prized possessions with six and seven figure price tags often attached, according to NameBio.

Math.com

Another valuable education domain name is Math.com. With the popularity of Khan Academy and other online math courses, Math.com has great value as a domain by itself. Further to the domain name is the website that’s hosted there, which many math related tools, quizzes and games. Math.com has a US Alexa ranking of just under five thousand.

511.com
511 is excellent in that it can be turned into great brands within China with some creative thinking, and at the same time still useful outside China because the repeating "1" and 3N make it still easy for consumers to remember.

Within China, 5 rhymes with many Chinese characters such as 我 (I), 屋 (house), and 玩 (play). 1 also rhymes with many Chinese characters such as 医 (medical), 易 (easy), and 衣 (clothes). By combining these characters, you can imagine what great brands in specific product/service industries are possible. For example: 511 => 屋易易 (house easy easy) => Real estate brand (e.g. house buying or selling)

HT.com
HT can become a global brand. Within China, it's so flexible that the limit is the sky when it comes to branding. Just an example of a great brand: 幻她 (fantasize about her).

NW.com
Example: 女王(queen)

In my opinion, 2L/3L and 2N/3N .com will become very expensive in China in years to come. The best strategy is to keep them for as long as you don't money.

Nice names! How long have you been domaining?

I acquired my first domain name (surname dot-com) in 1998. I didn't really get started acquiring great domain names until after the dot-com crash, i.e. around 2001).
