Disclaimer: This post is not intended to be a negative one, in fact, quite the opposite. It is meant to motivate - drive - inspire. So take it with a grain of salt, if you dare.

Hard work. Sound familiar? To some, it doesn’t. Sadly, it is a dying aptitude amongst the crowds and for some it has never “clicked” on. It seems that getting rich quick is the dream…well, I don’t blame you for wishing it so, however, I am here to tell you that you will likely never get rich quick. Especially in the domain industry.

The answers will never be handed to you on a silver platter and no one is going to hold your hand along the way. Success will not be given to you - it must be earned. There is no easy way and there are absolutely no shortcuts to becoming a successful and profitable domain name investor. NONE. NADA. ZIP. ZILCH. ZERO.

Take a step back and really let that soak in.

Are you willing to work harder than everyone else?
Do you want it as badly as you can breathe?
Does the thought of succeeding consume your every waking moment?

Ask yourself those questions and honestly answer them. There is a reason that a select few are at the top and stay there. It’s no fluke. They didn’t ask for hand-outs, they busted their a***s to get to where they are. They dug deep, researched the industry and they engulfed themselves in everything they could find in order to become a successful domain name investor. Most importantly, they never gave up. Ever.

What I’m getting at is this: if you want to become a highly successful domain name investor it all comes down to one thing: hard work. If you aren’t waking up earlier, going to sleep later, and working harder than everyone else and only seeking a quick and easy way to get rich, you will never make it. So how bad do you want it?
Are you willing to read every single post on NamePros?
Are you willing to watch every single DomainSherpa video?
Are you willing to look through every single listing there is on every auction platform?
Are you willing to scour through every blog post from every single industry related blog there is?
Read every single word on the internet that is related to this industry?
Are you willing to read every sales book ever written? Books on sales psychology? Negotiation tactics?
Are you able to soak up everything there is and only ask questions when you’ve exhausted every effort of your own to find the answers?!

How much work are you really willing to do? Because at the end of the day, what sets apart the successful people from the unsuccessful people is one thing: hard work.

As I said in the beginning of this post, this is not meant to be negative or to put you down, at all. I truly hope that this inspires you. I hope it ignites an explosion of curiosity and passion for you. I hope that you dream bigger, dig deeper, and push harder than you ever have to achieve your dream of becoming a successful domain name investor. This is one of those jobs that has more rewards than you can ever imagine. It is up to you to determine just how badly you actually want it.

As you can see in my listing, I state " Take a look at this list of comparable 5 letter - one word .coms!"
Why are those listed? Because they are comparable 5 letter - on word .com sales.

Yes - I see. That's why I am asking. Because you can't compare the value of vodka.com or bingo.com with the value of pedal.com. Do we agree on that?

Thats because I post the Google Keyword Planner's top 100 relative searches.

I see that too. However Google Planner has a little bit different goal (to make advertisers buying ads for as many keywords as they can. No matter if they actually will benefit from that).

Because I don't think that people searching for "bicycle tyres" or "bikes online" are looking for pedals. Or at least 95 percent are looking to buy bicycle tyres and bikes online. Do we agree on that?

What I try to write here is that your tactics are .....hm lets say controversial. You are not lying, but maybe you are not telling the whole truth. Do we agree on that too?

Sorry - I don't want to argue or anything. Just my thoughts. I am happy to read your posts how we must try to change the perception of domainers and domain industry as a whole. I really want to learn how to sell domains better. That is why I am asking these questions. To see how the pros are making it.

A lot of people look to domaining as a quick solution to make money but it really isn't that. For some people they may spend more time and earn less for that time they would at a minimum wage job, some may even find themselves loosing money like I originally did buying names I thought were worth money but really weren't. I've gotten to the point where I can keep this up as a hobby but I wouldn't quit my day job for domaining :) nice post Ali!

Great post Ali - truly. Domaining is not a get rich quick kind of business model - apart from you already owning or getting a premium domain from father/grandfather,.. that had it just sitting there for years and giving it you for a birthday present. While there are so many benefits in this business that is hard to mention every, option that lets you work from almost anywhere - from you taking a dump while registering a new awesome domain, to sipping mojito, smoking Cuban cigar, listening to the sea with a laptop on your knees. But in order to achieve something like that as Ali said you have to work hard and by working hard I mean sometimes you'll sleep for 2-3 hours per day and scouting just about every possible marketplace, going through tens of thousands domains and finding just one domain that you seem would be worth registering / buying, that your wish your eyes would bleed blood and not that you will have a feeling of someone pouring the sand on your eyes just because you forgot to blink while scrolling and searching. But it will all be rewarded when you start making some money and sales, when you wake up from that 2 hour sleep and the first thing you do is check email and there it is - someone buying your domain for whatever BIN you put on the domain and you were comfortable selling it for - just then you will realize how orgasmic and rewarding will all those hours you spent learning, reading, listening, searching be.

Whatever your opinions may be, i've never hid anything - I show the stats someone else would see them, when they go to Google Keyword Planner and search for "Pedal" they see what I see, my objective is to save them a trip to GWP and show the top 100 relevant searches.

Ever heard of SEO? With a domain like Pedal.com - you can focus your ranking efforts on relative keywords, being that Pedal can be branded to by synonymous with cycling parts much like "Bicycle Tires". Relative searches are provide to SHOW what terms the website can be focused on ranking. If one term has 25,000 searches a month, it would be wiser to focus efforts on ranking that term first for more exposure. Anyways, this won't term into a lesson on SEO. You can read articles about that on your own.

I am providing relevant data. I could just as easily post an auction with NO description, but I don't. I take the time to format proper listings and provide data that I see fit for the domain. When I show comparable 5 letter, one word sales it's the same concept. I didn't place BIKE.COM on their which sold for $500,000 - am I hiding that? No, I didn't include it because it wasn't a 5 letter word. So am I lying about that? No. I focused on 5 letter one word comps for that auction.

I agree - there are many factors that go into becoming successful, but the foundation of it all is the willingness to work hard for it :) The rest is mostly metaphysical - statistical and requiring the right form!
