I guess a domainer and a stuntman have one thing in common. Catching a speeding train just on time and avoiding train wrecks. But just in case a wreck is inevitable, one should come out unscathed. Thanks for the thought-provoking article Bob. A nice recipe indeed.

I personally hate to miss profitable trains. I rather do a lot of initial mistakes, it is a learning path for me. It sometimes costs a lot of money, but I think it is more effective to learn from our actions directly then to spend years reading the textbooks or meditating about things.

Honestly, there are not many things which are sadder in life than to miss a train when you were completely aware that the train is coming ... and then to stay with the empty hands ...

Thanks for the nice article :xf.smile:

Just to give everyone a heads up, there are a lot of trains that are fixing to leave the station in the next year or two with the second round of New gTLDs:

I myself am now concentrating more of my efforts on new tech trends, but for those who are interested in New gTLDs there might be some good opportunities in the near future to be first on the train.

I agree that getting some actual practice with domains while a person is learning is a good idea as long as people are careful not to get bogged down with hundreds of useless domains that are going to hold them back from taking advantage of the real opportunities when they present themselves.

    IMO

While much of the attention around this topic has been on TLDs, in some cases even more narrowly on .vc, the idea of trains certainly applies to niches as well. The new blog post with the seller of CognitiveAutomation is a pretty inspirational case of someone who saw the value in that niche in artificial intelligence and has certainly profited handsomely.
