The .AI Bubble: Why Mike Mann Might Be Right… and Wrong

Mike Mann recently shared some thoughts with me, claiming .AI is "presumably at its peak." And you know what? Only Mann can say something like that and get half the industry nodding along while the other half loses their minds. His logic is pretty straightforward: there aren't enough profitable AI companies to justify what everyone's paying for these domains. It's speculation on top of speculation, and when the music stops, a lot of people are going to be holding worthless names. I get it... Read more at SullysBlog.com

AI and AI companies are still in the baby stage. They have many more years to see and integrate themselves with almost everything possible in the world.

"Perplexity.ai is worth over a billion dollars now (the company, not the domain)."
This part made me laugh.

Like the author has seen things that made the clarification necessary.

I just do not see many AI companies adopting .ai Tod names for thier company website. It will probably be .com for the big ones.

I sold only COM domains till now, got offers for nGTLD's, this says it all.
Also I have deleted my Deepseek and ChatGPT accounts, I not want to depend on this crap any longer and feed it for free with my personal data! This is like when you go to church and confess everything to the priest, they saw that people stop visiting the church "let's invent this digital priests to get their private confessions further" voila ChatGPT and other priests came to the light.
Maybe in the future when they will be perfect and not make mistakes, a personal AI that is portable and not linked to anything by Internet or servers.

" That’s creating artificial demand for .AI domains".

Artificial demand for artificial intelligence names - gotta be one of Sully's best lines. I wonder if he realises what he wrote? Might be a good book title, for when the fad goes belly up.

I was present for and I still vividly remember the fervour, madness and insane valuations during the .com boom.
Stock in everything and anything with an e/e- at the start of their name was being snapped up by investors. Furthermore, companies were being named with such prefixes, to take advantage of this bandwagon.

Where are all those companies now? 99.95% of them are dead, that's where.

The .ai junk will have the same ending as the .com mania, only the collapse will be considerably worse because the money involved is so much more now. The smart people have already got out. Same with the crypto crap.

I wonder how many people who are betting on this defective technology have read "Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds" by Charles Mackay, first published in 1841. Probably very few have even heard of it.

Hi, there

Maybe the more interesting metric is whether serious AI teams keep their .AI as they scale.

When will your use of AI peak?

I dunno, maybe something like Terminator lol?
Well, in that case, let's all cross our fingers and hope that there is no date when it becomes "aware".
