As I'm sure many of you are aware, appraisals are a touchy subject. Having a thread exclusively for them would take away some of the clutter, as well as provide an opportunity for those who wish to avoid flame wars to steer clear.

What would you think about putting up a few rules in regards to appraisals? I've received many complaints about individuals not happy with the way a certain poster(s) provide appraisals. Surely reasons to justify why a name is only worth reg fee (other than the because it's a .mobi and isn't developed) could help people reg better names in the future. On the other hand, saying a name is worth XXX, without saying why provides little advice for this person either.

I'm going to open this up as a poll, you're more than welcome to voice your opinions or concerns. If the concensus is that it's a good idea, I'll speak with Garrett about it.

I appreciate you taking the time to help us improve our forum :)

I am not a fan of a single thread becoming 60 pages long, and that's what would happen with the single thread for apprasials method. If anything, make a sub-forum for appraisals or leave things the way they are now.

This is tricky, I've thought about this myself Reece. Appraisals at this stage of the game are so subjective to begin with. What I do is ask for "opinions" on a name, rather than outright appraisals.

Appraisals on any names other than premium right now seems like an exercise in futility, but I would have to say "leave things the way they are" for right now.

I voted for the appraisal thread thinking it was for a subforum. A single thread is going to get too long very quickly. I'm all for a subforum, but agree with Garrett that it is too subjective at this point in the game. On another thread, Josh paid a visit to say that the .mobi appraisals on Estibot are difficult because there are such wild swings as to sales numbers, and until things normalize a little it's tough to tell a true appraisal value. Many .mobi's have lots of traffic and maybe even more backlinks than their .com counterparts, so it's anybody's guess what anything is worth right now up until the name actually sells.

For now, I voted "Leave things as they are ... " IMHO. Appraisals are opinions, and as such should be gladly accepted as well as respected (for the person taking the time to appraise and share their humble thoughts FREE of charge), in my view! :yell:
Do you realize how boring it is to post and not get any appraisals at all?
Be thankful that folks are willing to appraise!

As far as "Rules", I'd simply suggest Warning points be issued to those engaging in personal attacks and character assassinations ... rather than addressing the topic(s) at hand, IMHO. These Warning points will add up for repeated infractions - infractions that detrement the active and healthy .MOBI community as a whole - resulting in temporary or permanent bannings (either from the #1 .MOBI Forum™ or Namepros, itself)! This is a fair, efficient, and proven system! :music:

Great job and great post, Mr. Reece ... keep up the great work! :talk:

Reece, I admire the post and thoght. my idea about a panel to help new regs withing a reg window flopped. I stand behind any choice made. I don't know if we are stable enough for such a further grease fire potential sub-thread..

i also vote for warnings and bannings.
