Hi again.

Working on a project, early stages. Please help me test the name.
Can't disclose project details for now, but the idea is very fresh and hopefully useful for all of you.

Test:

Step 1. I strongly believe in branding. "ebay" and "ipod" mean nothing unless they're branded. Therefore the name - MIDANO. At a first glance (before even knowing what it's about), do you think it's memorable? Brandable? Car model, new MP3 player, whatever.

Step 2. Click www.midano.com
Now you know what it's about (in a broad sense). Answer the same questions again - do you think it's memorable? Brandable?

Honest opinions are appreciated. I won't forget you when the site is up and running. Thanks in advance.

It is indeed brandable.

To me it sounds like a company that produces a high-tech hobbyist product. Think how the Shimano name is synonymous to high-tech bicycles.

<goes off to look at your site>

very nice. the name works for what you have in mind. good luck! :tu:

I like the name too ... similar to Milano ...
It is brandable, for sure.

Works well.. just keep in mind that branding and developing can be both expensive and time consuming. Good luck!

I like it too. I'm also a strong believer in brand building. I've worked for VC backed companies in the incubator stage and participated in many a "let's come up with a name" meetings. We're talking companies with $20 million+ just brainstorming and creating words to try and find the right "brandable" name for the business. So yes, I believe in the concept.

I do like your name.

Veraxim.com, Alendra.com are a couple of my "brandable" names.

Thank you guys, it's a really valuable input for me.

Dave - development is a non-issue, it's all taken care of. Marketing is a different story, but I've got a plan there as well.

Farmer - great insight, much appreciated.

My first impression of the term MIDANO was that it was a surname...similiar to MODANO the hockey player.
Looking at your site certainly made me think otherwise....very clever.Certainly memorable and definitely brandable. Now the task and challenge is to build it into a million dollar brand...go for it and good luck!!!

Also Midano... don't be too turned off by the "the name reminded me of a ____" comments. While I'm sure the comments here are genuine... I always get the "that names sounds like the name of a _____". I think this is a good thing. If it sounds like "something", that means the name can be molded into the brand... into something specific... into your brand.

Hmm. Why would midano be turned off? He asked for impressions:

Exactly. That's why I asked.
I do have a "plan B" name - very descriptive of the concept, but I'd prefer a made-up name (midano in this case) over it.

ok... replace term "turned off" with term "dissuaded"

Whenever someone decides to put real sweat into raising awareness for a name, it always pays off imho. So long as its not one of those arieovnmaorevdeee type names. Your name is fine. And you are doing heck of a lot more than those lazy rich basterds who buy up names at auctions to just to plunk into a no-brainer PPC.

the name sounds usable but would say it holds no value, success will be the result of your development efforts not this name.

Snoop - I agree completely.

Now, another question. What do you think of the logo? It will define site's look&feel - very articulate high-contract black&white.

I like your logo- very clever. It's metamorphosis into "domain", however, leads me into thinking that this would be a domain name sales or marketing site, and I don't know if that is your intent.

"Reminds me of_____..." can have a positive, negative, or neutral meaning depending on the "_____" and the context.

"Midano" gives me an Asian- particularly Japanese- feeling. My initial word associations were w/ "Midori" a liqueur and w/ Shimano, the bicycle.

I have no hard evidence to back this up, but would think that a combination of names that already have branding power would enhance the brandability of the new hybrid. Regardless, I would give the name high marks for it's branding potential.

Grrilla - yes, that's the intent. The site will deal with domains, so the name is a scrambled "domain" by design.
