bros..
so I'm down to 500 names on dot.. thought this.fun round number deserved little chat on folio sizes.

I remember when started 10yr back my max reached like 3k names. 99percent wasted zero value junk. then I had to spend yrs learning craft and getting back to zero from a few grands into negative.. lol

but hey. I'm sure happened to many. the sucky part is if u start ..lost money then quit cause your discouraged and so u quit with minus 5 or 10k

that sucks.

anyway.. let's have nice chat on folio sizes.. u can vote .. renewals add up...sales going down.. folio sizes suddenly matter.

enjoy

This poll is crazy so 1001 domains puts you in the same category as 5000 why not ask for the actual number

This way you don't have to count. I know I have a few thousand but for sure no more than 5k, so it suits me well. ;) Something like 3k if I had to guess.

Very nice. Do you make a good income with a portfolio that big? Where do you usually buy the domains?
I receive inquiries every day on Afternic, but honestly, the brokers there leave much to be desired. I typically close about 3 out of every 10 leads at Atom with the information provided, but if you saw my Afternic feedback from brokers, itโ€™s pretty much a jokeโ€”thereโ€™s zero follow-up. Most of the brokers are capable, but thereโ€™s a hidden issue: GoDaddy has a $300k monthly quota that they wonโ€™t openly admit to. Brokers earn a low base salary, but they can make real money if they hit the goal. Thatโ€™s why you see some sharp folks working there, essentially with golden handcuffs. These guys could have made millionsโ€”or even billionsโ€”if they had gone a different route in Silicon Valley. But then again, maybe Iโ€™m wrong. A true billionaire would probably still be a billionaire regardless.

My real problem isnโ€™t sellingโ€”itโ€™s stopping myself from buying more domains!

Why would a monthly sales quota for a sales team (or individual) be an issue?

I have 7 domains. I got into domaining around 5 years ago and made around $4-5k in a year with around 40 domains. I then gave up because it seemed like too much work for too little reward.

I just started again this year but only plan to buy a few domains. This is more of a backround side hustle that I can do now and then. Not taking it too seriously.

I don't know how others have 100s of domains because I rarely see any good ones for sale at reasonable prices.

I only have .com domains.
This about where Iโ€™m at. I have 13 domains and want to sell off about half of them but do so as a sideline.

I now have 20, but getting rid of 2. So I'll stick with the other 18 and reassess at the end of this year. If any sell, I might buy more though. But I need to some results before doing anything else.

Back when I regged various extensions and lost tons of money, I didn't even keep track. Learned my lessons, stepped back for a bit, dropped 99% non .com and held around 100-200 domains for a couple of years. I was more active this year and doubled that to around 400.
What's the STR now and back then when you started?

I have about 300 domains currently, which is too much for my liking. I've stopped acquisitions for the time being to focus on sales. I want to acquire higher quality from this point forward and hopefully cut my portfolio size down to about 150-200 in the next few years which would be more manageable.

I have around 150. Started one year ago, mostly .COM and few other tlds. 3 sales in 2024. Hopefully this year will be good.

Still around 1% ATM, the difference is the frequency, some years had 0 sales, some 1 sale because at 100 with decent names you might sell 1 a year or every couple of years, where if you have 1000, you might sell 10 in a year.

Portfolio update: I already doubled that to 800 .com and with over 200 .now and some other extensions, I am finally over 1000 names.

Hi fellow domainers,

I have a question for those with very large portfolio sizes (such as 1,000 to over 10,000): Do you guys rely on the sales of your domains yearly to pay for your portfolio's annual renewal fees, or do you save a buffer from other income sources, such as a high-paying job, for the dry years when no or insufficient domains are being sold?

Currently, I am at the 100th domain mark portfolio now, I would like to hear how full-time domainers manage the renewal aspect of their portfolio if you dont mind sharing.

Thanks and may all of us have great sales this year!

The issue is my friend that if you look at the amount of brokers that are actually in your inquirys over the hundreds i get they dont have a lot of brokers if you figure the sell thru rate of only 1% and they have very little amonts of closed deals from the first inquiry all this being said its like a broker on the stock excharge when the market is busy there not interssted in stale orders they want to get the market orders done and the fresh stuff sells if not right away its shelved like the soup natzi on sinefeld NEXT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not easyโ€”this is addicting. Try to buy quality domains at auction, aiming to spend around $2K. If you pay that, you can probably retail it for $20Kโ€“$40K in a couple of years.

Hand registrations are good too, but you have to be patient. I just sold a hand-reg BIN on Afternic for $31K. I had 5 offers over 15 years.

I recently switched to lease-to-own. The only good thing about that is the 10% Afternic commission. But keep in mind, buyers can make a couple of payments and then walk. I wouldnโ€™t mind thoughโ€”because the premium type will sell again.

Money for renewals come from sales, liquidation and own funds. You can also reduce the cost of renewals by checking for transfer promotions. If you only use your own funds to cover the renewals over 2-3 years, maybe this business is not for you..
You cannot draw conclusions with 100 names, unless the quality is very high, but it's not a non manageable number in terms of renewal cost. You can cover the annual renewal cost even if you work at Starbucks.

No one should be doing this if it's an addiction. It's a recipe for losing money. Keep emotions out of it.

In your experience, do you think selling a domain on Atom basic (Not plus, or premium) is worth it ?

currently, I only sell on afternic.

The more domain names there are
The greater the hope,
But at the same time, the renewal funds are also more.
Sometimes it's very contradictory
