Yahoo vs Google.. which do you prefer and why?

Google has an advantage that no other search engine has - PageRank. It's supposed to return the most reliable information, on top of being relevant. It's an algorithm developed by Larry Page (hence "PageRank") and ranks pages based on backlinks - like thesis to citations.

Yahoo started off as a directory/portal until they took over AltaVista. Whereas Google is pure search engine.

There's a good book out called "The Search" by John Batelle and it explains all these in details.

The thing I like about yahoo is that they have news reports right on their main page. I know google has this on news.google.com but I just prefer to have it all on one page with yahoo.

Google > Msn > If I haven't found what I searched for, something must be wrong, but then I would go with Yahoo :P

i dony know if you all are knowing what are you talking about, the best algorithm right now giving the best results its msn´s,
why do you all have in mind that google its the best, who made you think that or what?
dont you see that PR made lots of irrelevant sites rank up in the searches?
or if you are told that you must jump like CRAZY you will jump?
this is driving me crazy

Google's algorithm *was* the best, enabling it to programmatically analyze billions of pages and come up with mostly relevant results. It was only after SEO experts figured out how to fool the google algo that relevance suffered. MSN (or Yahoo) may have the most relevant results now, but wait till the SEO guys get done with them. They'll suffer the same fate as google.

NO company can beat it... especially within the next few years. And that's if Google doesn't keep working on their search, which they of course WILL. Larry Page is an absolute genius I give him LOTS of credit.

on what are you basing your statement? do you know anything about SE??
A much complicate algorithm is not suposed to make the best work,

I prefer google.
google loads fast than Yahoo and it has more search results.
it also isn't bulky on the ads and it's very neatly designed.

i remember the time when i was using yayoo. Then a friend of mine came and said a new site was online google that is better...
For the first year i didnt beleive him and continued with yahoo. I thought that yahoo was the best search engine out there... Then after some years i even deleted yahoo from the links section in my favourites.... :cy:

Well I have two toolbars with google on it at all times so I just use it by default. I'm getting a little sick of Google though - mainly their boring layout - they never change it - it's been that way for years. I like the look of search.msn.com

I personally prefer Google. Apart from the search engine Google is spreading with many different services like gmail, adsense, adwords, blog search etc. and becoming larger day by day.

MSN is revelant. But my stats software tell me theres a lot less users.. (surprisingly)
