Are there any registry fees when transferring a .xyz domain or is it a straight forward give the auth code to the buyer & they can transfer it & pay any fees their registrar charges as in a .com, .net etc ?

For example when transferring a .co.uk/.uk it has to done via Nominet & there is a fee of around $10 - $15.

The buyer just pays the transfer fee. For example, if your domain is at Namecheap and you sell to a buyer who wants to accept at GoDaddy, when you give them the auth code the buyer initiates the transfer in their account at GoDaddy and pays the transfer fee (it should be the same as a renewal fee). The transfer renews the domain an additional year. If the domain is a premium, they will have to pay the premium renewal fee for the transfer.

Some registrars will allow you to push the domain to another account at the same registrar without the buyer having to pay a transfer fee. The buyer has to have an account at the same registrar.

Remember that ICANN imposes a 60 day transfer hold on newly registered domains. That can't be waived. And now when you change your WHOIS information, there is a 60 day transfer hold as well (some registrars allow you to waive that one).
