I searched out all the threads and there isn't an officially designated .xyz thread so how about this one to cover the subject?

So to start off my first xyz reg is:

SH3.xyz
:xf.grin:

Sh stands for Shanghai

May have little value if any but I like short domains as possible that I can get in new extensions and with majority of numbers taken I figured why not for the low reg fee right now. Plus it sorry of rhymes.

xyz is on fire. 18,804 registrations in the last day. 22k yesterday. It will take over BIZ in the near future and as the momentum begins it'll rival INFO!

I can see everyone is registering English keywords, so I'm wondering, has anyone registered pinyin or chinese first names .xyz? I found that many chinese first names are already registered, so I went ahead and registered a few ones:

Domain Chinese name - meaning
ahkum.xyz Ah Kum - good as gold
ahlam.xyz Ah Lam - peace
bingwen.xyz Bingwen - bright and cultivated
chonglin.xyz Chonglin - second brother unicorn
chuhua.xyz Chuhua - chrysanthemum

And some pinyin keywords:

Domain Chinese meaning
dianziyouxi.xyz computer and video games
lanqiuchang.xyz basketball court
meishizuqiu.xyz American football
qingshaonian.xyz an adolescent, a youth, young person, teenage, teenager
qiulei.xyz ball sports
toulanji.xyz arcade basketball machine
zashua.xyz a sideshow, vaudeville

Taking into account that .XYZ acquired its Chinese business license, I hope that these names will have some value in the future.

What do you think, guys?

Registering pinyin is a precarious undertaking unless you are fluent in Mandarin/Cantonese and have a strong understanding of the western alphabet interpretations . Google translate is all but useless - although it is possible to get lucky on the few occasions the translation is accurate.

I can't say if the names you registered are good or bad and I genuinely hope you have some good ones.

I don't use google translate :) I use https://chinese.yabla.com/chinese-english-pinyin-dictionary.php and https://chineselandrush.com/#/pnlist

It's still on very cheap reg fees though which aren't sustainable. The real indication will be the renewal rates. .Biz and .Info have been around for a long time and as such have relatively stable numbers. That is to say that we know that .biz and .info get renewed at roughly these numbers- whilst with xyz we just know they get reg'd in large numbers at a low price.

Ah I see. Your still relying on the accuracy of some automated software although it's not google. It might be really good. I can't comment on that.

What I would constructively suggest is you get your list checked by someone in the know, so you can verify the domains really mean what yabla is telling you they do. If they do, you've found a nice little angle and if you can figure out where the Chinese domainers will strike next you can reg good pinyin keywords ahead of time.

In my experience though, this kind of software makes a lot of annoying little mistakes- sometimes it's only one letter out but it can make all the difference.

Thanks for the advice :) Currently, after I find a word using Yabla, I try to google it, to see if it means something, but the help of someone, who really knows it, is definitely much better.

Anyway, I'm not investing tons of money into .xyz, so if this experiment fails... well, I'll lose $20 :)

Just an FYI, I just checked available CCC.xyz. Over 300 have been registered in the last 15 hours. 7,801 left to register. I'm guessing the CCC.xyz will get sold out in a couple weeks. We shall see.

UPDATE...49 sold in the last hour. 7,752 available.

gaineration.xyz

NOTE 'gaineration' is an art word, made from gain and generation
BTW 'generation.xyz' belongs to .xyz itself

If my name was Glen, I'd register gleneration. But, it is not.

Although @CJ6 if you put a gun to my head I would actually take gleneration.xyz out of the 2.

At least you have some sort of a chance to sell it to someone called glen....B-)

just scratching around looking at Chinese names of various things, and comparing .xyz and .top with those names, more .top have been registered for the same names than .xyz, so maybe Chinese names may be a better investment choice with .top than with .xyz

Well its great to see interest in regging xyz but my concern isSELLING THEM!

The more regs the less chances yours and my domains will sell unless they are super decent.

This is what irks me about domaining, too much inventory now too little buyers!! Its even more lopsided !

.XYZ Says They Just โ€œBlew Pastโ€ 2 Million Domain Registrations

FEBRUARY 6, 2016 BY MICHAEL BERKENS 1 COMMENT

Daniel Negari the CEO of the .XYZ registry just sent me over a note that the new gTLD .XYZ has โ€œblew past 2 Million domain name registrationsโ€.

According to ntldstats.com .XYZ was sitting at 1,967,963 domain registrations as of the last zone update, however there has been a huge surge in 6 number .XYZ domain names from China (NNNNNN.xyz) (also known as 6N domains) of over 100,000 domain registrations.

According to XYZ 27% of all 6N domain name combinations are now registered.

100% of all possible 5N and 4N .XYZ domain names are registered.

.XYZ has more domain registrations than any new gTLD and over 16% of all new gTLD registrations according to ntldstats.com
