Thank you for your continued support of .xyz! With over 50% of all .xyz registrations now originating from China, we are fully committed to growing in this market with our valued supporters and partners in 2016.
In 2015, we saw huge growth in .xyz adoption worldwide. However, no country grew more than China. There are approximately 700,000 .xyz domains registered in China, including valuable 3-character, 4-character, and 5-character domains. Additionally, there are now over 200,000 total .xyz IDNs registered โ many of which are in Chinese scripts.
The value of .xyz domains has also skyrocketed. 8.xyz sold in September 2015 for $82,000 USD. In November, 6.xyz sold for $125,000 USD. One month later, 9.xyz sold for $176,000 USD! Other sales in China include YY.xyz for $39,000 USD, 22.xyz for $27,00 USD, and ZZ.xyz for $18,000 USD. Even more impressive, 180.xyz sold for $3,500 USD in January 2016 after being originally purchased for $250 USD exactly one year earlier (1400% return on investment)!
To follow an extremely successful 2015, we are thrilled to announce that XYZ has acquired its Chinese business license, and is therefore an officially approved Chinese entity. We expect to be one of the first non-Chinese registries to be fully Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) accredited in the upcoming months. This means registrants will be able to host their .xyz websites in China. As a result, we expect adoption of .xyz in China to grow exponentially in 2016.
To celebrate all of our progress, our valued registrar partners in China are hosting special .xyz promotions for the Chinese New Year (Happy Year of the Monkey). There are still extremely valuable .xyz domains available for standard registration fees, including 3-characters and 6-number combinations (we expect all of these to be registered this year.
