and why...

I am on XP. Going to buy a new computer in the next few weeks, might go with a laptop. Vista is installed on most I have seen.
All I need to run is Firefox, Illustrator CS2 and Photoshop CS2

XP for sure, Vista doesn't work properly with certain VPN clients connected to an XP computer.

Sooner or later, you're gonna upgrade, so why not sooner? :tu:

I think we all hope more bugs get fixed and it will be a bit more compatible
with XP software.

Ps. Do you guys think the price will go down in the future?

Price will definitely go down, just like XP [in Australia]

With Vista, I am updating a lot [it does it automatically a few times a week] so I'm sure future versions will be stable :)

I have both and I like Vista but for now XP is better because there aren't drivers available for some of my software!

I'm using XP. I tried out Vista and while it looks a lot nicer, I found that it really lags. I mean, really, really lags...and some of my favorite programs don't work on Vista so...

Guys! If you are using XP, pls don't think about Vista, specially if your work need a PC. My colleague got a new laptop with Vista, but she can not do anything since all tool for professional work does not work in Vista. Wait for another year maybe.

Another issue, if you can get RAM to 2GB, Video card 256MB at least, you could think about Vista. If non -, you dual core will work like a PIII.

My X60 got a free windows Vista (upgrade), I got it and put it in a safe place. :lala:

I just bought a new PC 2 months ago and Vista came on it. It's pretty good, I had a lot of trouble at first with my Video Card because there weren't any official drivers for it. Nvidia finally released the drivers for it though and everything seems to be running a lot more stable now.

I still have XP on my laptop though.

Vista is good if you have a new pc.

On my new laptop HP with Centrino Duo , Vista Home Premium was the default OS and the computer runs as a Ferrari.

If you have a 1 year old machine or older than that , then you better stay with XP.

I just bought a new Dell 2 days ago. I only bought it because it's gonna be one of the last chances to get a new computer without Vista. I have no need for a flashy GUI. I need function more than form. I need speed and multitasking which XP does very well. Vista as pointed out has bugs and hogs resources. Why run Vista poorly when you can run XP great! Also compatibility is a serious issue with Vista. Often you hear about a slew of problems with softare running on the platform. XP is my last windows system...next up...FreeBSD. I am ready to make the change.

based on that, I`m assuming that between 5 years you will still stick with HP ?
