Its very stupid to push their vista product this way.

I think most corporates won't go for vista for another 3 years.

XP is the most powerful OS that microsoft ever release (IMO), and the most secured one so far.

Vista is mostly for personal use, not business.

I do think it's ourageous! If they are going to abandon all the XP users like this, is there any guarantee that vista users won't be in the similar situation in a few years' time?

They were planning on doing this a couple of months ago but changed their mind.

They have obviously not quite considered that they continue to drive business in the Apple direction.
If they discontinue XP Sales, i'll move to a dual core Apple and have XP or Vista as a secondary OS.
WTG MSFT! :td:

I don't like this idea. I sure as heck am not going to be buying VISTA anytime soon. I've used it and I really don't like it :td: .

Mike, True_Snake they will still be supporting and releasing patches for xp for some time. In fact service pack 3 is in beta at the moment. They are merely stopping selling it.

This Toshiba laptop is my last PC :) ..and it is XP...

MS is pushing people into an unstable OS...

My next one is a PowerMac....end of story

jaydub the same concerns were raised when Me was released and when Xp was released.

In fact I remember when I did my 1st defrag in XP. It managed to lose my installation of internet explorer. I had to use explorer as a browser until I got it sorted.

I don't really want to have to purchase a extra 3-4gig of ram to run smooth on Vista, Then again, I don't even want to run the system. :td:

Bad idea MS :td:

i've been running vista for about half a year now on an athlon x2 (64-bit) chip and 2 gigs of ram and it hasn't slowed down or crashed or anything. i just wish that mozilla comes out with a 64-bit firefox because the 64-bit internet explorer is hella fast but i'm a firefox fan.

i'm also using avg's antivirus + anti-spyware programs with daily updates along with windows defender. :tu:

I think this will give people a chance to explore other options...Looking at the way UBUNTU is going I have no doubts Vista sooner or later will collapse like a pack of cards..

They end XP but still do supporting, so don't worry too much if you have a XP license and keep it working for 4-5 years, then switch to a stable Vista :D while MS beginsa new OS lol

MS has done this with almost all their operating systems, Pushing consumers to purchase the newest.

I would assume, just as Win98,ME,2000,XP, that Vista needs A LOT of patches, so that exploits aren't possible.

Bad move by MS, Imo

This is a really bad move on Microsoft's end. As previously said, this may be a good way to allow new computer users to explore other alternatives such as Ubuntu, OpenSuse, and other linux distros.
