When you type in ssa.gov in the title bar you get the standard nothing results. On the other hand, if you type it in with the www you get their homepage. Are they behind the times, or was this address issue done intentionally? Can anyone explain it?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

They are just being stupid and they are not only one.
Occasionally, you'll see other large corps overlooking that as well.

All they have to do is add very simple line of code in .htaccess file.

They really should use a redirect of some sort, it's losing visitors. Shouldn't hurt SE rankings either so seems a bit weird?

And even the other way round, why not NamePros - Buy, Sell, Discuss Domain Names --> domain?

I personally use www for all my sites, but that's mainly because the IT illiterate expect to see a www and can get confused without it!

I always use WWW and get the non-www redirected to www

I do the same as digital. Traditionally people use www.

Most likely a missing DNS entry. On my hosts I always make sure i have an "a" record for both the root host "name.tld" and "www.name.tld" both resolving to my webserver.

You should redirect domain dot com to www.domain dot com in .htaccess. This will prevent your domain from duplicate content issues with search engines.

well, if they did it intentionally- this is silly....

there might be an error though.. I think you should let them know about this issue.
