Doesn't matter that it was a joke. I would have them fined at least!

I can't believe anyone took an offer to sell a baby for 1 Euro as "serious".. a bunch of noise over what was obviously a joke IMO.

It was probably a joke, but you never know. Perhaps these parents were trying to find out how much someone was willing to pay for a baby (and would have considered the price)? It's just one sick joke.

The parents should really be punished for this stunt.

OMG! Are you guys seriously thinking they put their baby on eBay with a minimum bid of 1 Euro? They even said it was a joke.. I nean, c'mon, don't you at least think they'd have set the minimum a bit higher if they'd been serious??

I'd hate to think how many times I've heard parents (including my mom) threaten to just give their kids away! They were KIDDING!

They did and they are investigated right now by the police and childcare institution.

The mother gave voluntarily the child in, and the child is observed for health issues right now..What they said doesn't matter and it is a different thing trying to correct your kid or or actually offering it on ebay, don't you think?

Cheers,

Frank

It might that people say: its just a joke, but we live in a world where this thing does happen. Parents do sell there babies, cause they cant afford them.

And I dont want to think about it, but we do live in a world with sick people who could take advance of such things.

You all know what happened to madeleine, so such things do exist.

These "parents" who set there child for sale, the should at least get a fine.

If they dont get any fine or anything, then what would stop a real baby seller to using this method?

If people just excuse there actions with "I was just joking"? A real babyseller, would use this method to sell. Then when ever police ask the seller, he would say "I was just kidding" and get away with it?

I am very anti-censorship and pro-freespeach, but when it comes to children, I think there must be a limit to what is acceptable. Just my simple opinion.

Best regards,

Ok, well, besides being a poor parent, she'd also have to be incredibly stupid but then, maybe this is all true.. I don't have much faith in human intelligence any more.

I agree with liquidcherry, there's a difference between a mother threatening/scaring their kids for them to behave and a mother actually trying to find out if people are interested in buying a kid.

As for the minimum bid, we all know it's a business tactic that works. It even happens here on Namepros. People start selling their LLLL.coms with a minimum bid of $1 knowing that the first or second person who bids will submit a number they think the LLLL.com is really worth.

Would it be tolerable if someone in here posted "Selling LLLL.com minimum bid $1" and then ultimately say "hey, it was obviously a joke d-uh!" NO it wouldn't be ok. So those parents deserve what the authorities are putting them through.

I wonder how many times some parent has vented on Craigslist in this manner (a few times at least, I'll bet, that we've never heard about).. and I've seen people joke about selling domains cheap in posts and in chat.. smart people don't fall for it and dumb people do.

I give the woman props for knowing how to use a computer because there are many people I know that would actually love to get rid of an unruly kid for 5 minutes and wouldn't know how to go about it.

Some kid put naked pictures of his 16 year old ex girlfriend on his myspace page and is facing 15 years for child pornography.

Some jokes are not worth the attention.

Actually, she was 15 when the pics were taken and 16 now, but that's besides the point.. they didn't belong there and this is off-topic anyway.

I'm not sure he deserves 15 yrs but it was certainly irresponsible to say the least and deserves some sort of punishment. I don't think he deserves a sex offender or child molestor tag that a conviction might give him.

What's that supposed to mean??? >:(

Nobody in here is being gullible.

There's a big difference between telling a good joke and actually pulling a prank. Sure, we get domainers pretending they'd sell a $1000 domain for $10 on chat (esp. amongst friends) but the joke ends if they actually have it on the auction board - and esp. if someone were to post :sold:

The way I see it, smart people know when and where to tell a good joke, and know the right people to play a prank on; dumb people get screwed over.

Uhm, whatever, people.. I still think, if she was joking, which I think she was and she said she was.. the whole thing is overblown.

But on the other hand, maybe we should go down as a group tonight with torches and pitchforks in hand and drive her out of the village..

My excuse: "burned out on the Net"
