This is an interesting idea. I guess it all depends how much you use your computer and how much this "pay as you go" service really costs. It probably isnt a bad idea in the sense that technology drastically changes each year. You know as well as I do that you can get a computer twice as fast as the one you just bought or built last year. For those who always want to keep up with the latest and greatest, this might be a good thing as long as the price is reasonable. I would look at this more like a lease which already exists to some extent. I guess I wouldn't mind this form of technology as long as people can still build and buy computers without the pay as you go method. Let the consumer decide which way to go. I do think the idea is interesting but im not so sure id be a good candidate for it since I am constantly on the computer. What I dislike most about this pay as you go service is that it sounds like it is applied to the software that you use as well. It could get ugly and confusing to new and existing computer users in my opinion.

Well, talking about cost:

"Charging for the various bundles may be by bundle and by duration. For example, the office bundle may be $1.00 [68 pence] per hour, the gaming bundle may be $1.25 per hour and the browsing bundle may be $0.80 per hour. The usage charges may be abstracted to 'units/hour' to make currency conversions simpler. Alternatively, a bundle may incur a one-time charge that is operable until changed or for a fixed-usage period," the document reads."

That is ridiculously expensive, just make the math...

Secondly, as we all know, you don't need to buy a new computer every time they come out with a new processor, heck i am still working with my 3 year old laptop and it performs every task pretty darn good :)

And as far it comes for the ones who want "the latest and greatest", they probably don't care anyway...so i believe this will fail...but i agree it could get very complicated....

Cheers

Frank

No thanks; I'll stick with my, err, non-pay-as-you-go computers.
