Hi,

I am researching a domain name in co.uk which is currently valued at 30K by Estibot.

These are full details of appraisal:

Search Overview:
Avg Search Results (keyword): 65,600,000
Avg Search Results (sld): 65,600,000

Monthly Searches: 3,342,800

Cost Per Click: $0.69 USD
Ad Competition: high
Data Age: Recent

I know Estibot is not that valuable but how much you think this domain can sell for in reality?

Recheck if it is a TM or not?
Good luck.

If it's available to register, it's worthless.

It is still available and no TM.

The reg. fee for .co.uk is 99 cent (using Godaddy coupon), so where is the risk ?
Register it.

I will... but I always want to learn from senior domainers first to avoid mistakes :)

Thanks.

The domain in question is a name of province and city in Europe.

Hm, are all available domains worthless?
People have software scouring available domains for those with fat search numbers. A domain with these numbers has been looked at by plenty of people already, and passed over. Probably because it's either a trademark or a meaningless partial-phrase like "on top of."

Yes, with very few exceptions, all available domains are worthless. Some may have value in the future, but those won't have big search numbers today.

It's not the 99 cents, but the time you waste searching through available names by the most obvious metrics (search numbers or - even worse - Estibot values). If you want to make a living hand registering domains, you have to think out of the box.

Edit- If it's a city not in the UK, likely not worth much on a .co.uk, unless it's brandable in some way that it might apply to people from that city living in the UK, or products from that city being sold in the UK, etc.

You've already spent time finding the word. If you are at all thinking that it might have value, then spend the 99 cents. If nobody wants it, then at least you learned something for only 99 cents - and that's a good deal:)

Thanks for your extended answer.

This particular domain is a name of city in Europe, but not UK.

If it's a nice holiday resort for the Brits then the .co.uk might work.

Benidorm springs to mind :)

I am originally from Europe and I'd check, if the city/town is not already promoted via website with the local TLD or .net. This is the tendency in Europe in general, where .com is seen rather as global and/or business TLD.
On the other hand, if this place for some reasons one day will be a nest for some big business, they might want to take advantage of CityName.com domain, however you know what the chances are here like.
I would register it. Costs you nothing moneywise and has a potential value in the future. Especially, that most European people are big local patriots, one day might happen, that some crazy retired business tycoon will fancy to make his/hers name on it.

PS. I know, I am a Newbie, but I do think out of the box, always did. Good luck:)

I can see that now. "Come to Benidorm to drink away your pension, urinate in the streets and otherwise age disgracefully!"

There is no risk for $0.99. What other gtld/cctld's are registered. What does Estibot value those at?

What I would say, is there is little value, usually, for a European province/city, in .co.uk. YMMV. So this is probably why it is still unregistered.

Funny. I just found that the most fascinating place, having lived in Northern England way back when. It's like they transported a whole working class coal town to a Spanish beach. Off season, it was all drunken grannies.

@Domainace - What was it like during the season?

During the summer season, I understand it's a lot of drunk and poorly behaved young people. I probably would have enjoyed that when I was young myself. I only went in the off season, so all the drunks were pensioners. But they were hanging on the lamp-post kind of drunk.

Benidorm offers some fantastically cheap lodging in the off season though. With a rental car, you can pretty much drive where you want out of town. So it wasn't bad.

Take the ยฃ0.99 gamble. I recently sold a $0.99 domain for $1000 in less than 40 days. You never know.
