Has anyone else noticed that the English are the true pioneers when it comes to stuff like this? Now the trick is figuring out how to charge everyone exorbitant fees to use it :p

Sound like a great idea. Sadly the article is right in saying that 3D hardware is slowly coming out. I suppose the market will just have 3D installed in stuff. Sounds like it would be a good thing to jump on as far as domains, selling, information and the like. That must be hard to design a 3D site.

I don't see 3D websites being much of anything, really, aside from a few niches. Obviously, porn would benefit well but what else? If I'm reading a news story or sports updates, 3D wouldn't benefit me much. It's a neat concept but I see no future to it aside from the adult industry. There's a difference between 3D TV and 3D websites. The latter just wouldn't work on a big enough scale to be commercially accepted into mainstream.

I agree that it is probably not going to change everyones lives, but the sales and marketing section could benefit greatly from this technology. Have you ever purchased something after seeing a flat image of the item, only to discover that it is not the size or dimensions you expected it to be ? I believe the whole 3D concept will remain as a niche for quite some time yet.

It's interesting to read the varying opinions on this subject. I find it difficult to predict the future for such technology. However, contentious opinion is often a positive indicator of an upward trending market in any niche.

I can see nothing but further public interest in this.

This is true. So I suppose other sites could benefit but again, not much. eBay would be great but too hard, if you get the problem. Places like amazon.com could benefit. But your typical DoubleClick ad won't at all since really, who pays attention to ads? 3D ads wouldn't be more appealing, just more annoying.

I'm not sure, this is developing fast
http://www.kioskmarketplace.com/art...-and-the-new-wave-of-kiosk-display-technology

Los Angeles-based Provision Interactive Technologies has already started rolling out its "no glasses required" 3D kiosk and digital signage displays, branded Holovision, that project a 3D image up to three or four feet in front of the projection screen.

Provision is marketing 17-inch diagonal, 29-inch and 40-inch Holivision screens, as well as its 3DEO Rewards Centers, which already have been installed in East and West coast grocery chains, and are getting ready to go into more retail locations, according to Provision president and CEO Curt Thornton.

And when the Holovision displays are integrated into the 3DEO Rewards Center kioks to offer coupons or promotions to consumers, the results are "phenomenal," Thornton says. Provision's studies have shown up to a 91 percent sales lift in products shown in 3D, brand recall and recognition of up to 100 percent and a 17 to 43 percent coupon redemption rate, as opposed to the 1.5 percent common to most newspaper or mailer coupons, he said:

As with many things, the Internet itself was started by the Brits, but it is only when huge nations like the US embrace the technology that things begin to fly. If news reports are to be believed, Europe and Asia are embracing the 3d concept with regards to 3D televisions and computers whereas in the US it has so far, been met with a cool reception.

Like so many things people will want it because everyone else has it and companies will feel they look old fashioned if they do not go 3d. Whether the benefits will outweigh the costs, who knows, but a lot will happen in this area imo.

Time for a new concept: 4d products.

oh I see 3dbras.tv is still free

3d has taken off in Japan. And I think I have the world's first 3d phone (Lynx), which I can use to watch pointless videos that give me a headache, or to take 3d picture of my kids so a nice family picture will give me headache.

I guess I don't get it. The technology seems the same as the 3d of 30 years ago. So far as I can see, it detracts rather than adds to any media it's used in.

The whole thing is a big joke, as far as I can see, and will fade as quickly as it came. If they want more people to pay for films, maybe better storytelling would be a novel idea...

Sorry, but 3D is the .mobi of appliances.
:D
