I've been wondering about this for a while. Exactly how does WT, KD etc. - determine search volumes for a particular query? Are they in agreement with major SE's or some other way? I ask this because, except for the Overture Keyword Selector Tool, I don't know of a "first-source" - for search statistics for other SE's e.g. Google, Ask or MSN.
So how do WordTracker and KeywordDiscovery do it?
WordTracker claims to work in conjunction with metasearch engines such as dogpile - but that doesn't really answer the question because usage for metasearch engines is low in comparison with the big 4 (Google, Yahoo!, MSN, Ask).
Any thoughts?
