I am new to the web development. I have installed WordPress Weblog to my website http://AntiShiphers.com When I looked at the WordPress features, it
also looks like a forum. I am also trying to develop another site mdtalks.com, which could be either a blog or a forum. My question is: which one should I choose "WordPress" or "phpBB Forum"? thanks.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

trust me I've got several blogs running on WP and it's not designed for forums. The same people are also developing bbPress which is purely for Bulletin Boards but it's a good 5-6 months away from being released..

if it's commercial blog then buy vB i used to have phpBB and it's full of holes not worth it...

Install forums and add a blog mod to it - that's the best solution here

How do you add a blog mod to it, I am using phpBB which is available directly from dreamhost cpanel.

maroulis,
does the current version of phpBB still have the "holes"? What kind of problems?

Create both of them and place a link using the control panel features of your blog.

He probably is reffering to the security loopholes that phpBB had a few months ago. phpBB is rather notorious for exploits unless you stay on top of updates and sometimes they come out virtually one after another. I think it's slowed down lately, but it's something to consider when running a forum.

Don't use WP for forums. Use PHPbb for forums and keep updating the patches.

Here's a little suggestion. Install Wordpress for Publishing the main news on frontpage. And install phpBB for discussions on those topics.

you have 2 options.

you can install the wp blog on the main and just create a /forum if you are planning to use it on a single domain..

thanks for all the suggestions.

A different but related question: yahoo YPN now offers ads for RSS. I went to the "ad setup" for RSS. There are five steps, at the step 5, it only mentioned that yahoo ads is compatible with either WordPress or Movable. Do I assume that I have to use wordpress (and not phpBB) if I want yahoo rss ads?

perhaps you can have an idea with this site: http://oweb.co.uk/

a combination of a wp blog on the main page and a forum section..

I recommend using PHPBB + The Blog Mod for your blogs need.

Regarding security, any software or network connected to the Net is always unsecure. We only minimize risk by regularly updating your servers or software with patches.

If someone told you that their software/servers is 100% secured, they really need your business and blindly accept their proposal. Only time can tell. I've been in security field for more 12+ years and never claimed that a systems is 100% secured.

For more information about the softwares:
www.phpbb.com for your forum
www.blogpoint.com for your blogs, your members can create their blogs.
another excellent mod
smartor - for making your portal to look CMS, with album feature.

I will use these softwares for our project www.Plogging.com.

Good luck to your project.

Regards,
EM

Better not consider WP as a forum. It surely the best blogging system but as a forum it doesnt have much.
Yes! If you use bbPress it would be great (after release)

How can u use wordpress for forum. Its only blog software. I have used it for my blog. It just works fine for me. and for forum i would suggest you to go SMF it can be directly installed for Cpanel if u use it . It has lots of mods and features and its support forum is too good.
so for blog = wordpress forum == SMF
