.mobi Wordpress .mobi Development Question

I'm in the process of developing crepes.mobi.
The idea is to list as many crepe stores / restaurants in the United States through wordpress. I installed a .mobi plug in for it. So far, its the "shell" of the site is up.

Has anyone used wordpress for .mobi? If so, have you had any luck changing the UI of it? Any feedback in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Well, I know this isn't exactly what you were asking for but... If you don't mind using Googlepages I know that they (GP) automatically toggle pages you create for regular and mobile viewing (great for .mobi's). Perhaps you could just use Googlepages or see if you could transfer Wordpress pages in. I know that you can transfer Googlepages into Wordpress.

thanks for the info.
I'm mainly trying to use one platform.
Googlepages seem as a neat idea, but dont you have to have it as subdomain.googlepages.com , verses crepes.mobi?

No - you can use your own domain name. Plus+ google loves itself. You seem to better ratings if you use their products :imho: . Check it out... so far I'm impressed!

You may want to recheck that - it sounded interesting so I went to their site and the following info is taken right off of the Googlepages website:

" Don't worry about hosting. Your web pages will live on your own site at yoursitename.googlepages.com"

and in the FAQ:

"Will Google give preferential treatment to web pages created with Google Page Creator in Google search results?"

"No, we won't. Web pages created using Google Page Creator will never receive any preferential treatment of any kind in Google search results."

If so, can you post it here?

gen,

i like what you did with developing.mobi.
The problem I'm having with wordpress for .mobi goes to djflush's point.

If you take a look at amtrak.mobi through your cell (or emulator), it seems rather simple to use, and servies its purpose. Ideally, I'd like a simple dsigned mobile site that users can add post restaurants / reviews for. The only way I know this to happen is through some type of blogging technology. It just seems that wordpress doesnt look properly through the mobile device.

That is incorrect. You can use images on .mobi sites, very effectively. Their size and number should be limited per page to speed loading time. Did you see the example sites listed at http://mtld.mobi yet?

EDIT - Or do you mean to say that there you are not allowed to use images using wordpress on mobile?

Like much of development, I think i need to do part custom and part packaged (wordpress / blogs, etc). Maybe something custom on the initial screen which leads into wordpress might be my best bet?

Does anyone have a developed mobile site using Wordpress, that I could take a look at? I'm interested in using wordpress or something similar for a upcoming project.

Thanks!
