WordPress: 'Error establishing database connection'

Hey,

I created a new website using the very latest version of WordPress (2.5.1) just a few days ago. Up until last night the site was 100% operational with absolutely no issues whatsoever. I went to bed, woke up, and received this message when I visited my site:

"Error establishing a database connection"

My website is: http://www.uoledger.com

(I receive a 'Page cannot be displayed' error in IE, but the database error above when I use Firefox)

..the error only appears about 4 out of every 5 page load attempts, with the other 1/5 attempts being a successful load of the page (although it's incredibly slow to load).

I contacted GoDaddy (hosts my site) and they told me there were no issues with the database servers and that the problem "could" lie within my '.htaccess' file. I was told to rename the '.htaccess' file to '.htaccessx' and then try reloading the page. This did not help, and I was then told to name my file back to '.htaccess' and that the problem was within my WordPress code..

How can this be if the site literally went from being perfectly operational to being virtually inaccessible overnight when I did absolutely nothing to my site? I'm telling you, it worked flawlessly last night but today it is absolutely being ridiculous.

My wp-config.php file containing the MySQL database information is setup correctly with the correct information and there are no unnecessary spaces or "wp_" prefixes before or after anything.

Does anyone have any clue on what I can do? I don't think anything permanent has happened since the error only appears about 4/5 times..

Thanks,
Brian

If you have fantastico in your control panel try reinstalling wp after taking a back up.
Alternatively download wp from the official site and reinstall.

If you are running server scripts check for compatibility with your hosting providers.

There certainly does seem to be something wrong with Godaddy's server. It takes quite a long time to establish a connection to the site, and even longer to actually load up the site.

By the looks of it, I'd say either Godaddy's SQL servers are taking a huge hit by someone else on the same server your on, or they're just having some connection issues. Either way, looks to me like you're going to have to hit support up yet again.

Just called GoDaddy again.. They are insisting it's not their server. I asked them if, like you said Sergio965, someone else was taking a good hit. They told me they could not access these internal database statistics without first speaking to the 'Advanced Technical Team'.. I was then told again it was my site.

I'm sure it's not something that a re-installation could fix since there are no issues with any of my scripts, pages, etc. Ahh, this is driving me crazy :td:.

I found this little script that you might want to run. It's supposed to optimize the tables on your databases: http://www.webdigity.com/index.php?action=tutorial;code=16

Now, do note that I've never tired this script myself, but by reading over it, it seems to be rudimentary optimizing techniques.

On another note, I'm pretty sure that they're at fault here. If your site was working before and you made no changes to it, then it should still be working like it used to. You could try looking for someone else on the same sever you're on and ask them if they're having the same problems. If they are, it's GoDaddy. If they are not, it's you. But of course, I'm sure they have hundreds (if not thousands) on that one server.

Best of luck. :tu:
