Hey all,

Kind of stuck on what to do here. Im looking for a community site.. Here is an example of what i want to do.

1. have users post there products (must have profile to post)
2. have other users look at postings but must be member to view them.
3. if they want to purchase a product they can purchase from
the site but purchase through the site store not individual people that post.

for example. if i had a school and i had old books i want only the school community to post to this site and students to go on and be able to sign up for an account and see what other students have then purchase through the site.

Wordpress would be great to use but im hearing a lot about Drupal. I also look at the pre made themes as well such as directory press or classifiedpress for wordpress

Any help or advice would be appreciated

When your site turns from a portfolio, presentation, even simple newsportal to a site with custom forms and modules, like stores, jobportals, bids etc then its time to use drupal.
Maybe if you showme a case online of what you want, i could help you better,..

I think u should use Drupal. That site has a complex user access. May be wordpress can do that (not sure), but it will need a lot of work and time. Or, you can use joomla too, there's some joomla extension that u can combine to build site like this.

Wordpress

I love wordpress, mainly for it being very SEO friendly, but wordpress can do just about anything...Well... E-commerce isn't the best on it, but everything else!

I am the first one to sound the trumpets for wordpress.. but when it comes to community and what you want to do, Drupal would be better.

Has a higher learning curve, but worth learning.

wp would be good for small projects, but bigger ones, i suggest you use drupal, or joomla

I work with both CMS. But if you want to start such good project you need to use Drupal

I would recommend Drupal.
If you are going to have only a single group per site, then any node access module in drupal can do what you want. Just download the module, enable the permissions and you are done.

If you are going to have multiple groups in the same website (Say, 2-3 schools) and you want to restrict students of school1 can only buy from School 1, then you should look at the module organic groups (og) to create groups whereby you can restrict the posts under that groups to users who joined the group.

Ubercart module is good for handling the payment and other ecom.
