I'm considering submitting this name for the upcoming Domain Tools Auction in January. The last day to submit a name is about week away and it would be helpful to get some feedback on the value of this name and what reserve to set.

WireRack () com

- Registered July 3, 2001.
- 941,000 Google results for the search phrase "wire rack"
- Advertisers on Google pay $2.34 per click to be in top 3 sponsored listings for search phrase “wire rack”.
- 11 sponsored listings on Google's first page.

www.WireRacks()com - Owned by a well known domain investor and blogger.
www.WireRack()net - Same as above.
www.Wire-Rack()com - $2,650 through Fabulous DDN

3 word generics which sold recently.

1. RollTopDesks.com - $30,000 – 114,200 Google results
2. LogHomeKits.com - $28,556 - 51,200 Google results

WireRack()com could be developed into a niche site like those of CSN stores and Netshops.

One specific question: What is the price difference between a hyphenated name vs. a non-hyphenated name?

The closest example I could find was Free-Credit-Report.com which sold for $28,250 at the first Domain Tools auction and the FreeCreditCheck.com/CreditCheck.com pair that sold in the June TRAFFIC auction for $3 million. Based on these numbers, I would estimate that FreeCreditReport.com would sell for at least $300,000 which is 10x more than the hyphenated version. If anyone knows an exact multiple to use that would be very helpful.

Thanks.

There is no exact multiple and also no exact price that an end user might pay.

Also there is NO comparison between Credit domains and ones about wire racks.

Wire Rack is searched for under 600 times a month.

reseller mid $xx - low $xxx. Maybe a bit more for end user.

Its not a bad domain don't get me wrong, but you seriously can't compare it to a financial domain, what is there to compare? it's completely unrelated imho it's certainly not worth $xx,xxx im afraid , sounds more like a vps/dedi/hosting domain of some sort to me.

I agree with holys appraisal, mid $xx to low $xxx

Thanks for the feedback.

I agree with both of you that comparing wire racks and credit related terms isn't an appropriate fit. The comparison I'm trying to find is the difference in value between a hyphenated version of a name and a non-hyphenated version of a name.

Free-Credit-Report.com $28,250
FreeCreditCheck.com/CreditCheck.com $3 million

The word "check" and "report" and report aren't exactly the same but are close fits. Using the $3 million sale and dividing by 2 makes each name roughly worth $1.5 million.

$1.5 million divided by $28,250 = 53.1

In this example, the non-hyphenated version is worth 53 times more than the hyphenated version.

I'm trying to figure out what multiple to use in my situation. The value of WireRack () com is definitely worth more than Wire-Rack () com but how much more?

Wire-Rack () com = $2,650
WireRack () com = ?

I don't think you can give a multiple, I guess if you could find out the buyer of Wire-rack.com you could try and sell it to them.

Personally I can't see this domain going for a $xx,xxx amount, if you got double you would be doing well, but who knows.

i have a bunch of ++++rack/s.com myself, as I am in the racking biz, wirerack is a very rarely used term although it is the key term to a certain type of storage rack.

I recently appraised palletrack.com (not mine) at estibot, and value was 68,000$, which is a reasonable figure considering the movement of the biz is going to the net, not to mention it is a billion $ biz worldwide.

i plan to start an online rack company myself as i recently reg'd RackForSale.com as the owner of palletrack com is somewhat in the trade.

Much depends on the traffic. If it gets good type-in traffic, it should be pretty valuable. The PPC profile is good. Take the revenue, multiply it by a few years, maybe that's close to your reseller price. Say it makes $5 per day, that'll be around $5k then.

I'd put this at anywhere between $500-$5k reseller depending on ppc revenue, but it's a true generic, I don't know this market niche at all, and it may be worth a lot to a web shop selling wire racks (whatever they are). End user price $xx,xxx, why not.

Certainly a domain for the DomainTools Auction.
