This contest will be an award of $69 payable through check or paypal, your preference.

Please do not enter clipart etc type entries. It is very important that this is an original logo. I don't want any TM concerns. If anyone notices that any entries are questionable re their originality please PM me with appropriate reference re similar logos so I can look into further.

Comments from onlookers are welcomed. If you have any questions, please ask.

I would like a logo that can be used on apparel so keep that in mind. Vector artwork required to receive the prize money. High resolution!!!

What site is the logo to be created for?
The logo will be for www.legalchatter.com. The theme of the website is law related obviously and will attract pre-law students, law students, and lawyers.

Are the colors used on www.legalchatter.com the colors you want in your logo?

You may ignore the current colors as they have yet to be set. However, the colors should be inviting and non threatening. They should foster community and make people want to return. We can modify the colors used on the site to fit the logo created.


Do you have any ideas?
I am not set on anything I am hoping to get some good creative entries. When I asked some friends in the law for some ideas to get you started, they came up with the following:

1. The scales of justice with stuff symbolizing work on one side and weighing heavier than the other side, which would have stuff symbolizing personal life.

2. A set of teeth chomping down on a gavel.

3. A shark coming up to the surface of the water (See the JAWS poster) and on the surface swims a man in a business suit paddling on an oar (rather than a swimmer from jaws).

4. A shark coming up to the surface of the water (See the JAWS poster) chomping on Legalchatter.com, which is splintered from the shark bites

How will the competition work?
Round 1 of the competition will last until Wednesday, September 27th. Each submission shall receive candid feedback and all submissions may be revised multiple times, based on my feedback, until the final deadline for Round 1. The final deadline will be 11:59 PM PST on September 27th.

Will you accept multiple entries from the same user?
Yes, multiple entries will be accepted.

What happens after Round 1?
When Round 1 closes at 11:59 PM, I will make two selections and provide feedback after reviewing the entries. Round 2 will commence following the announcement of the selected entries. Round 2 will come to a close 4 days following that announcement. I will select a winner shortly after that.

I like the idea of some gavel beating on a shark. Never thought of that. I am eagerly awaiting the "cleaned up" version. There should be some way to tie the font, the shark, and the gavel together into a nice little logo.

I am working on the new version and I will post soon. Also, would you like it to look more like the shark is taking a bite out of the gavel rather than getting beat by it?

I think this looks cool. Better than the first. What about if the eyes weren't there at all? And I might have misunderstood SF, but I think he want the words "Legal" and ".com" in gray with "chatter" in blue.

Alright, real quick because I am on the way out the door for a few hours:

1) Can we modify the color of "legal" to be like ".com" but leave chatter blue?

2) I think we should ditch the eyes or go with smaller black ones like in the JAWS poster in my original post.

3) Maybe it could look even better with a bigger shark and more teeth, which would also be more like the JAWS poster. Can you trace that shark?

Bigger shark might be neat, but I really like the "cartoony" feel to this one.

Also, I think sharks are less gray and more white on the bottom. Is it possible to make the edges more gray and the parts closer to the center of the shark more white?

Stealth, your initial entry would be good if the site was called "The Penal Code." Jaynesh, yours is pretty cool, but the nostrils look too much like eyes. And the bite marks in the "t"s in "Chatter" look more like palm trees.

Hmmm...didn't notice that palm tree thing until you mentioned it. Maybe if the bite marks were moved over to the e and r in chatter? All in all, a really cool logo, Jaynesh.

Ummm, Mr. Hunt and tedlogan, do I know you? These guys know what they are doing. They are professional web designers. They float some logo concepts out there so as not to give their best designs away. As the competition progresses, they release their best ideas and tweaked logos. I have faith in them.

I like the cartoon like design. Great work on the shark. Any chance we can get the chark biting at the domain letters, and maybe a separate image showing a bite or bites in other areas of the domain?

Maybe holes created by the shark teeth in the shape of a shark's jaw would be better than full chunks taken out of legalchatter.com.

I agree, its cool to get feedback from onlookers. I have really appreciated the outsiders view in my comps.

Just make sure that your comments are only "comments" and that you don't distract the designer from Silicon's requirements/feedback.

Feedback for everyone: I want the "CHATTER" part of the domain to pop!

Feedback for discobiscuits: I like the first attempt but if we are going cartoon like, I need something more professional. As a cartoon like image, I feel that Virgil's just meets that requirement. Once he revises it, it will likely be in that category. Good first stab!

I am looking forward to more designs and those revisions. We can only do another round of revisions before the deadline. There are no limits on the number of revisions before the deadline.

This is the idea I had in my head. I think it's really cool! I like the shark in the suit. I'm not sure about the font though. Jaynesh, you have great ideas/designs!
