Windows Help Question

Hi,

I am trying to change to AHCI through the BIOS setting as due to various issue with Windows over the past few days I had to reinstall, cleverly I decided not to install while running AHCI so Vista has rightly disabled the driver.

I have followed the Microsoft article on enabling the driver here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976 which seems to have worked for most however for me it hasn't. I change the value to 0, restart, enter bios and change to AHCI and reboot which gives me the BSOD just as it did without enabling the driver.

Anyone got any advice?

Thank you

...

I knew someone was going to post something stupid. I was looking for help with my problem not a silly suggestion, and for the record XP doesn't come with built in AHCI support so unless I slipstreamed the driver into the CD or loaded it (F6) during install (both of which I have recently tried and failed with recently) that wouldn't work either.

It's not so much a problem withn Vista it's me being stupid by installing in while in IDE mode, however it should have swapped without too much of a problem once enabling the AHCI driver.

So, you found my response stupid but don't respond to my second attempt??

At least let me know, would you? :)

Sorry liquidcherry, firstly for my slightly over the top response to your first post...I just get so sick of the way arguments can be sparked from even mentioning an operating system I'm very non-tolerant of late haha.

As for not responding, again sorry but as I am now coming up to my exams and have a lot of holiday work to do, it's not top of my priorities.

The pages you link to speak of enabling thhe AHCI driver by editing the registry, which as I mentioned I have already done.

I suspect the problem could be with another device driver that I have not taken into account. My current laptop may well be being replaced in the not so distant future so unless anyone has an idea for a quick fix I am simply going to let it go on in IDE mode instead of fiddling about any further.

Thanks

Hi Matt, i was just kidding with my response that you are not responding :)

Your problem sounds odd bc the links i posted are handling different areas of that problem(as far as i can see).

The only remaining suggestion i can think of is, how about a BIOS update, the manufacturers ar known to shoot out the most stable version even if it is causing problems and then comeup with fixes......

Let me know, i always need input(to learn) :)

Cheers,

Frank
