will i get into trouble if i take over a domain name that was previously involved in a lawsuit that facilitate copyright infringement on the Internet.

i suppose the owner gave up on the website and leave the domain to drop. If i manage to grab hold of this domain and just leave it to park, do i hold any liability against this kind of issue? some advise pls?

Wrong section, ask mod to move this thread.

You will be in trouble, if you buy such name.

Hello,

Well being a new domainer and developer can be a pain, but regrading this case personally i think you'd be fine. As long as the lawsuit was over the websites content not the domain.

Content is content. It has nothing to do with the domain.

And sidenote this is sort of in the right section frih....

No simple generic answer exists to this one. However if you simply register and park the domain I doubt anything will happen. Worst case scenario is probably that you might get a letter requesting you to delete or hand over the domain. It depends on the domain as well, for example, if it is a clear TM name etc. However in general you should be fine :)

Probably not a good idea to buy domains that have a tainted past.
You say you want to park it, but think of what kind of traffic you are likely to get. Low quality (non-converting) traffic might even jeopardize your parking account. Why take a chance for peanuts.

I think some people are confused as I was at first. The issue is not if the domain is a trademark domain, but the content that was on the domain under the previous owner.

If it was just the content that caused the problem, then you should be able to buy the domain and not have the same problem.

I would first ask yourself why I would buy the domain if I did not know about it's past? If you sill have reasons to buy the domain, then I would check for mentions of the domain on the web, backlinks, and what the old content was.

The fact that there was a problem in the past with the domain could be negative or positive for the new owner depending on a number of factors which you will have to decide. It might be a good domain to develope or park with ads for copyright infringement lawyers. :)
