KT announced that it made a service technology consulting agreement with Neupara, a wireless communications company in Las Vegas, U.S.A on Jan. 10, 2007.
Thus far, there have been examples of Wibro equipment exports centering around manufacturing companies, this is the first case in which a communications company directly sells Wibro service technology to a foreign operator.
Under this agreement, KT will validate performance and execute an optimization through network design establishment and field test by August this year and transfer the service operating technology needed for pilot service.
Neupara is a Maryland-based communications operator and it will start a pilot service after proceeding field test in 2.3GHz band for the first time in the U.S. in Richmond and Charlottesville, Virginia. Furthermore, if the pilot service is successfully executed, Neupara is expected to start a commercial service going forward in 5 cities in the Eastern region of U.S.A.
Mr. Lee Sang Hong, KT¡¯s Head of Infra R&D Center, said ¡°An agreement was successfully made with foreign operator as KT¡¯s technology power for Wibro has been well-recognized, which has been under commercial service for the first time in the world. He added ¡°Taking this momentum, KT plans to channel our energy on creating a global Wibro market, expanding markets to various regions including Southeast Asian countries and further increasing our profits in this area.¡±
